Plumbing Advice

I wonder if anyone else in Castletown has the same issue with poor water pressure as me?

I'm relatively new to the area and have noticed that my home water supply has got weaker and weaker. It has got to the stage now where it's impossible to have 2 taps running at once, and forget flushing a loo while someone's in the shower !!!

The water board have visited and suggested there is nothing wrong with the mains water supply. I can only suggest that the pipes are clogged up with limescale (if my kettle is anything to go by).

Has anyone else had the same problem and know of anyone reliable who can do anything to flush my plumbing system out?

Hi Big Pete, I am in Castletown, and have no problem with water pressure, to be honest I get soaked if I turn the taps on too much as we have got high pressure where I am.

Please come along to the next Residents meeting and maybe ask the question to the rest of the group, meeting in the Castle Tavern Thursday 6th August at 7pm.

Hope to see you there.

well if severn-trent have 'suggested' there is nowt wrong with the supply they should have given you the acceptable bar pressure for domestic residence and then confirmed it by measuring it at street2house supply. if they've done this then ask on this forum for preffered plumbers to check further......

I had this problem, the pipes in Stafford are mostly old copper ones, so they oxidise. I've now got a brand new water supply pipe, which cost me (or my dad who kindly paid for it) about £350. When the pipe was cut you couldn't even get a screwdriver through the space left. I don't believe you can actually flush the system.

The water board only have to supply 1 bar of pressure, there is a minimum flow rate aswell I think but I can't remember of the top of my head. First thing I would check is that your stop tap is fully open, it's not uncommon for them to break and restrict flow. If it's noisy or it keeps turning one way with stopping or won't turn off it may want looking at. Cold water pipes inside your property shouldn't really scale up, I'd look for a individual blockage near the stop tap if it is an internal problem, stone in the pipe somewhere maybe is there's been any waterworks near you latley.
It's also worth considering is the problem constant or at certain times of the day when your neighbours could be drawing alot of water off thus causing your problem.

Hi Pete,

I live in Castletown too and my water pressure's fine, however a friend of mine owns a house on Jerningham Street which is just round the corner, and the pressure is appalling.
