Who's bought "Killing in the Name (of)" by Rage Against The Machine just to topple Joe McEldrey?

I think there are too many mothers out there and not enough Rock fans for it to make a difference, but who am I to say? :P

i cant decide if its on list of things to do when i get the home pc back up and running online again.

the rights to both acts belong to sony so i cant help but think its just a clever money spinning operation by them. :ninja:

Think it's worth a few quid on the off chance we don't have to hear the xfactor tripe quite so often. Where's the best place to get it online....can't remember the last chance I bought any music....

In protest at the sheep like mentality of the general music buying public, we're all going to go out and buy a song that tells us not to be sheep, because someone said we should. In outrage at this more people will buy the x-factor 'song', just to stop the fiendish plan from being successful. Sony enjoys bumper christmas sales all round.

Have I missed something?

yes: the point :teef:

so what you're basically saying is, you don't want to take part in any co-ordinated efforts to make something funny happen? booooooooring :P

edit: at first i didn't believe this campaign had a hope in hell of working, but now it's front page news on the bbc news site and apparently RATM are winning!

that being said, alexandra's single last xmas sold over 850,000, so even if every single member of the facebook group buys a copy (which they won't) it still wouldn't work lol..

No what I'm saying is the charts represent the music choice of the type of people who buy music. Why would those who don't actually buy music, or at least in any number, want a song everyone already knows at the top of a chart that doesn't represent their musical tastes? If it was some new band that needed greater recognition I could kind of understand it but this is mid 90s stuff, what is it trying to achieve? RATM get a few mins more heavily edited airplay on radio stations we don't listen to? At least an unknown would have benefited from the exposure, RATM don't need it.

Still, at least it makes the record companies a few quid. If it makes you feel better though I'll pirate a copy this week ;)

I bought Killing In The Name from 7digital.com for 50p. Not sure if this contributes to the chart beings as it's the album version, but hey... :slayer:

Out of interest, isn't there some sort of rules regarding chart manipulation? Otherwise Simon Cowell could just order 2 million copies himself, and there'd be no point.

Also, AFAIK the other CD only actually got released today, therefore is bound to be behind. The sort of people who buy this are not the sort of people who download, it'll be for xmas pressies for poor unsuspecting relatives.

If it's under 40p it doesn't count towards the chart apparently!

EDIT:- Then again the facebook page says it does.. :?:

Sure I read it somewhere...
