Whilst I remember Rowney's in Mill Street, wasn't it also in Bridge Street? I'm sure I can remember going in the to buy some headphones.Rowney's was in Mill Street in my time, and Tom Reekie was by the bridge in Bridge Street.
Was it a big shop?In the 50's there was one in Greengate St, a few doors down (south) from the Swan Hotel. I vaguely remember buying Beatnik Fly by Johnny and the Hurricanes there.
(Yes I know, back when dinosaurs ruled the Earth. Heard them all before, pretty sure I'll hear them all again.)
Rowneys did sell records alongside its tv and hifi. The shop in Bridge Street is now an opticians.Did Rowneys the record shop become Rowneys the hifi and TV shop? or did they always do both?
I still have one of these.Lotus Records in Mill Street, used to stop on my way home from my Saturday job in the market. Never made it home with much money but do still have a great vinyl collection!
Good Deals was the record shop in Woodings Yard in my time*, that moved to Wolverhampton Road and became Collectable Records - still going, but mostly a mail order operation these days.
