Anyone know of any rehearsal space going in or around Stafford? Currently the band I am in are jamming in a farm outbuilding which is getting a tad chilly now. Any serious suggestions gratefully received. Cheers.

Try some of the community centres.. I used to use the Wildwood one, the Acton Trussell one and the church by Walton.. hardly world class but its cheap and available.. apart from that maybe the Uni/College could help?

.44pistol & The Portables both use the function room of the Prince of Wales on weston rd. for free, in return for doing some gigs during the year - I think the WestWay on Highfields had a similar offer going..

Other then that I think there's rehearsal space in Stone but Goldilox would know more about that..

there is tower studios in stone, or there are a number of lock ups (where you can leave all of your gear) in wolverhampton right by the train station. you'll probably pay about 20 a night for one of those

Mate of mine has used the one accross from Tower in Stone - what was once a factory lodge.

Says it is much better - ground level in if you have big gear. I'll try and find the name and number.

Possibly worth mentioning, now that the Bird in Hand is back on the circuit, that the upstairs there was once used as a rehearsal room.

Worth enquiring?

Upstairs at Royal Oak, Ecce, is a functioning function room

The Bird in hand room is available at £5 a head for a decent rehearsal session, not bad, he may be a tad twitchy a letting it out on Fri/Sat nights but otherwise seems generally flexible on times.

Hi guys,

I'm currently in the process of potentially opening up a set of rehearsal rooms in Stafford centre as I know rehearsal space is pretty sparse round here.

Obviously it will take funding and if you want to call this a bit of market research to back up my need for money then so be it.

Just really wanted to gauge how many people would be interested in using a rehearsal space (kitted out, sound proofed and under £10 per hour)

And also how many people think that it is a viable idea (regardless of whether they would indeed use the space)

Any feedback would be great guys.

Thanks in advance

How do I edit this?
In all honesty, as long as I can continue to find pubs willing to let us rehearse in exchange for some gig time, I don't think I'd go back to using a paid-for practice space.

As a small-time working band the amounts you have coming in are fairly pitiful and to be handing over £30+ a week eats onto it considerably. The convenience of having a PA, a sofa and a vending machine are nice, but it's not really a great hassle to throw a powered monitor in the car, especially when you're moving amps anyway, and having a pub downstairs usually means refreshments aren't a problem.

Obviously mileage varies and this is just me, I know some musicians who've never made a penny who wouldn't dream of doing without a proper rehearsal room.

A few posts under my belt
Hello All,

Apologies for resurrecting this old chestnut of a thread. With Staffordshire Music Centre closing shortly does anyone have any tips on venues for rehearsal in Stafford? The "free praccy in return for free gigs" deal sounds attractive - is there anyone still doing this? We're ok with driving out of town so it doesn't have to be in ST16/17.

Thanks in advance - any info would be gratefully received!

There is a large room upstairs at the Prince of Wales that used to get used a lot at one time - not sure what goes on now, but it might be worth asking.
