Sandon Road traffic maze.

Browning Street was closed both ways from the Four Crosses this morning - don't get caught out like I did. I will report when it becomes half-open again.

Its a nightmare but then again you'd be just a pissed if whatever they're fixing didn't get fixed.

Might go and photograph it this weekend, as basil observed it's mighty colourful!

There is a single green fence amongst all the purple ones and it moves about quite a bit. I wonder if it has any significance. I have two purple ones by my kitchen window to stop me falling down a hole they dug last Monday.

I am quite enjoying the whole thing and have suggested that they leave it like this at the end. It is one of the most succesful traffic management schemes that I've seen in Stafford - despite twice being able to see my house, but not able to go there without reversing and trying another way. I like the daily challenge and the much reduced traffic.

As for things being fixed, I wasn't aware that there was any particular problem with the local gas pipework. Although most of it has been there for 75 years and so it might need a look at now, I suppose.

Gailey roundabout was clear today

Friday, however, will be another story

If you want someone to blame for the roadworks try Thatcher - she allowed any utility company the right to rip it up and rip you off

More capacity needed for all the houses they are going to build up on Beaconside :ninja:

The replacement main pipe looks about the same size as the old one, and that was plenty big. A lot of the work is about replacing individual house supply pipes which won't improve downstream supply. It does just seem to be largely replacement work. They are putting in new drainage kerbs and have already destroyed the popular, long-term water feature in the bus stop at the end of Charnley Road. It is alleged that there will be a full rebuilding of the road surface when it's all done. I'm not in favour of that. It's only the appalling state of the road that keeps the actual speed limit down at sixty.

Browning Street is still completely shut at the Four Crosses. Best ( almost only! ) route out is into Oxford Gardens, then Freemen Street, across into Peel Terrace, down Marston round, into Rowley Street and then onto the A34 at Lloyd's roundabout - but keep it quiet.

Strangely, Browning street was open both ways last night...not sure what it's like now...but odd!

As I said above - 'according to the Newsletter' - this always carries a hint of possible inaccuracy, does it not?

I'm not so worried, as I have my own personal moat at the moment, but I would prefer it if the outer defences were maintained properly.

Unfortunately, my gas reconnection has been completed and they now propose to fill my slit trench in. I have told them that I am concerned that the outer defences should be re-inforced first.
