Sat Navs

I refused for ages to have a sat nav.

I didn't see the need when I could have my maps.

Until I was given a Sat Nav.

Now I love it but I still won't go anywhere without a big map in the car just in case (including all my small local maps).

Mine is a Mio (or something like that). It's not top of the range like the TomTom's, but it's got a decent sized screen and has free lifetime maps included. However I think they may not have allowed for memory for future maps, as since the last update it has developed a speach impediment which I am sure is due to them dropping certain sounds from it's vocabulary in order to make the updated maps fit on it. Luckily I'm finding it quite entertaining.

I had an old Binatone satnav years ago that I hacked and installed celebrity voice packs on to. Having Chubby Brown, Del Trotter etc. take you to holiday was quite ammusing. Unfortunately though I couldn't update any maps at all and it got to the point where even chubby was saying "A haven't got a f***ing clue where THAT is!"

My cars have their own, built in but to be quite honest either Google maps or Waze is a far better bet, particularly for rerouting round traffic automatically and they're both free.

I use an app on my phone called CoPilot. I think it cost approximately £20. You can set all your preferences the same as the TomTom I used previously, it updates the maps automatically and you can also sign up for additional features such as live traffic etc which re-routes you if there are delays etc. I'd definitely recommend it
