Following last year’s critically-acclaimed five-star production of Macbeth, Stafford Festival Shakespeare will return to the Castle this year with something very special. The Merchant of Venice has never been performed before in the 29 years of the festival. And we will be giving the production a fresh perspective, transporting audiences across the Atlantic to New York during the 1950’s. Nothing against Shakespeare but surely it's time to put non-shakespeare plays on the stage up at the castle. Maybe some Comedys say like errm....Passport to Pimlico?......

Not much of a Shakespeare Festival sans the Bard.

Would easily handle a nice bit of Jonson though, if alternatives are being proffered.

Unfamiliar with Merchant, so am already looking forward to it immensely
