...for 10 year olds!!!!!

now maybe im really letting my fuddy duddy side show with this thread, but WTF?

ive just seen a thread on a local forum asking for ideas for a 10yr olds birthday party and the mother has posted up for quotes for a pamper party for these kids so they can have their hair and nails done with a mini make-up session. the prices have come back at about £20 a head not including nibbles.

is it just me who thinks this is just a bit wrong?

i have to be honest and say that when i was 10 i would have loved to have done something like that as i would have felt sooooo grown up. but should these kids be treated like mini adults so early? rightly so (god, theyll have a field day when they read this) my parents wouldnt have let me go to something like that at that age and i would quite rightly have hated them for not letting me go...but in the long run i dont think it would have been a bad thing.

i have to admit that i did start wearing makeup when i was at school, but i was probably about 13 and never really went in for heavy heavy make-up. i see some young lasses in sheffield out and about with more make up that i have probably worn in my life time slapped on 'just to go to the shops'. ive even seen teenagers wearing false lashes...which i have to admit has just made me giggle because they look so odd.

but its not just the ethics of dressing young kids up past their years, its charging £20 a head each....thats a lot of money even if theres only 5 of them!!!

ive had to resist the urge to have a rant on that thread and try and promote a more wholesome activity like having a jewellery party at my friends shop where they could be creative and make themselves a piece of beaded jewellery...a much more worthwhile usage of ther time rather than havng their nails painted!

i should also point out, that nobody has commented on the thread that this is just a bit wierd and extranvagant for a 10yr old either....im waiting to see if anything is said as people get up and realise theyre snowed in and spend all day on the pc! lol

*sigh* i feel better now.

No, cookie, it's not just you! What's wrong with kids being kids while they're, er, kids? The age of innocence passes too quickly these days!
Now I'm sounding like a fuddy duddy! Albeit a fine upstanding one.......In my opinion anyway.

Is that a Moomin?
Lil Girl Rat had a party when she was 6 and one of the games was a make up challenge. It was just fun for me if I am honest as seeing ten 6 years olds fighting over the blue eyeshadow and pearlescant pink lipstick made it worth my while :P I dont think this is quite the same, but I remember one of my friends getting a bit funny about it. Little girls love to play with makeup, why shouldnt I get to laugh at them was my reply. I wouldnt pay £20 a head for any party activity let alone for a makeover, not even for myself. Just give em some cheap slap and let them play, they enjoy it more anyway...

i completely agree with you- little girls love to be more grown up than they are. i had a girls world (albeit a second hand donation, the folks would never have bought me one) and i love trying the make up on my self. the bi-annual christmas shows at the gatehouse were great too and i could have given pat butcher a run for her money decked out in my mums finest blue and pink eye shadows.

but thats playing, like you say- but treating them like 'customers' suddenly that really is all a bit too grown up.

im glad it wasnt just me. :)

This makes me think of the wedding invitations that seem as bold.

I had a friend of the family send me an invitation and the little slip of paper inside said since they had been living together for 5 years, they didn't need anything for their house so they had set up an account to pay for their honeymoon instead.

Sorry honey. You are not getting a dime of my money.
