Sky vs Virgin (ntl)

gon2seed

(and me! - Ed)
Mrs Seed and I are a bit perturbed, as cable subscribers, and watchers of two Sky 1 programmes, it looks like we are going to be shafted.

I watch Rescue Me and Mrs Seed has never missed an episode of Lost! The rest of it you can send to Hell in a hand cart, load of old tosh really.

The temptation to give any more of my hard earned cash to Murdock is one that I will have no trouble resisting; I am not much of a Branson fan, but Murdoch!!!!! And he's a former Aussie!

So if, as looks likely, we lose Sky, I'll have to fall back on Dodgey Dennis and his bumper compilation DVD's for a few quid. Quality isn't the same, but I have to have my fix of Rescue Me, and Mrs Seed wouldn't last the week without following the goings on on the Island(s).

Anyone else gonna be affected by this?

An advert break between the Oscar's coverage on Skyone last night, was when I was made aware of the Sky v Virgin battle. Some clever/catty advertising going on there. I'm an NTL subscriber, I have Virgin car insurance and mobile. Don't see this is gonna affect me.

ntl = virgin media.. as of thursday, you are going to lose sky 1, 2, 3 and a couple of other minor ones.. virgin are going to lose a lot of customers unless they thrash out a deal before then - the simpsons, lost, battlestar galactica, rescue me, nip/tuck, etc. are all more than enough to get people switching in droves..

I'm listening now. This does affect me!! The Simpsons is the only one on that list I watch and that's rarely but Skyone has some late night drivel that entertains.

i can't believe virgin are still digging their heals in.. i can only imagine how many people are on the phone to sky today, organising the switch.. i would be on the phone in a heartbeat if i lost sky one..

the only reason im not that fussed is coz im still getting a great deal on my phone and broadband and i actually only got it installed about a month ago.

to be fair, this is the first time ive had any deviation from the usual 5 terrestrial channels...ive managed for nearly 28 years, i reckon i can manage another 11 months when my contract runs out.

i havent actually watched that much stuff on sky one (all the decent stuff is on too late for me...and i dotn have a video) and plus ive found that i watch more living than anything else.

but, that said...watch this space.

i hear what you're saying - i certainly wouldn't miss the channels if i'd never had them.. that being said, aren't you a Lost fan?? does this mean you haven't been watching the third series on sky one, then?

4000th post? Whatever, I'm nonchalant..
I've written to Virgin Media and asked them that if they're no longer paying £60,000,000 annually to Sky for their channels are they going to pass that saving on to their 3,300,000 subscribers.
Using my crap maths I worked out I should get an £18 discount per year.

no. :meh:

on account of....

1) its on too late for me...i have to be in bed by 10 if i stand any chance of getting up on time for work.
2) only getting signed up a month ago
3) moving house and general disruption
4) the scouser being a slack knacker and forgetting to download them (and us having a bit of a to do and not talking for the last 6 weeks or so)
5) missing the repeats still coz they were on at the wrong time for me
6) now having absolutely not a scooby as to whats going on

...ive just given up. ill get it on dvd at some point and just have a lost fest at some point. seems like the best option.

Does anyone own a Virgin Mobile in the Stafford area. Its because I may leave my trusty Orange network and become a Virgin. The savings are good – £40 you get a mobile (300mins & 300txts anytime anynetwork) landline (120min anytime) 300 tv channels and broadband. Sounds good, but there's got to be a catch hasn't there. I don't know anyone who is on Virgin and it might be because the network coverage is crap etc etc. Any views? I went on their coverage map and it seemed ok for Stafford.

I 've said before I'm a Virgin and have been for 10 years, never wanted to change network, v.happy customer, my mum, bro and Tensh are all Virgins too. Only place I don't get a signal is at the hospital, but you ain't allowed your mobile on there anyway

only downside i can see is the lack of sky channels discussed in this thread.. if you're not fussed about missing simpsons, lost, 24, BSG, futurama, nip/tuck, etc. then you'll be fine..

You are now, except on the wards. They've finally realised that just using it in the corridors doesn't actually affect anything. After all these years.

I'm so dull.

Get mobile and all, it's a steal of a deal.
what is it, a nokia 3210? :teef:
i do believe it is! and its got a horrible interchangeable pink case. hoik.
The only reason I'm hoicking that piece of meat around at the moment is my Virgin Lobster ceased to function on boxing day and I've yet to get it looked at, my friend 'kindly' lent me a pink, sparkly number. I don't answer it in public.
