Lawtomotive is now offering soft top cleaning! We can remove moss, algae, other organic materials like tree sap, animal waste and insect deposits. The hood will be deep cleaned using the latest biological cleaners, scrubbed (it's hard work!) and then fully rinsed before being protected with a long lasting highly water resistant Autoglym protector.

Prices start from £50 for forumites (usual price from £70) for a small two seater car (or equivalent) hood, or from £75 (usually £100) for larger four seat cars (or equivalent). Heavily soiled hoods will require more work and an honest assessment and fixed price will be quoted before commencement.

Here is an example of my work, a car that was parked under a tree for four years! This was done as part of a full detail, however, it required two rounds with the cleaner and scrub and then an overnight soak. Individually I would have charged £90 for this hood - a new mohair roof for an mx5 is over £300 fitted though! A roof like this on say an Audi A4 convertible would be around £130 to clean in this condition - or £850 new. No man-maths here!

And when the hood was dry (this car had a full paint correction, polish and wheel polish, too!):

I can come to you to assess/quote and perform light cleaning, really bad hoods may require soaking over night, so the car will have to be plastic wrapped and would therefore be unusable for 24 hours. Cheaper if you come to me!

My other half has an MG TF which needs cleaning and it has a small tear of about an inch that needs repairing.

Is this something that you can do?

Hi Carole

If the roof is mohair then I certainly can clean it, that would be no problem. Depending on how dirty it is it would be £50-70. The tear, unfortunately, it not something I can repair, I have never picked up a needle and thread in my life!

Regards

Ben

Thanks for getting back to me.

I might have a go at sewing it myself and also find out what the roof is made of.

I would imagine it would be rubber overlaid with mohair, although it may be PVC.

I did some research last night on non-sewn repairs and the most common/recommended method is something I can do (its exactly the same as repairing a tent). More than happy to pop over, have a look and give you a quote for both? I can come over any time to suit :)

Its no problem, although if we could plan it for a time when I'm near there then that would be appreciated.
