Sports Direct Stafford - Stunned (in a bad way)

(Unfortunately) popped into Sports Direct in Stafford today and was stunned by the service that I saw...

Saw a bloke who obviously had mild learning difficulties ask about a product that was out of stock... SD employee goes to look for it, comes back and says we haven't got it in and I don't think we'll get anymore in anyway... bloke says to him (in the nicest way possible) "I asked your manager the other day and he said they would be in by now"..... (to reiterate, was a completely friendly tone, not sarcastic) and the SD bloke says to him in a raised and stern tone "Look, if you want to speak to a manager, do it, I don't care about socks" and he then stormed off....

Myself and another bloke stood nearby buying football boots for his kid just looked on, stunned at how this bloke could treat a customer. I saw the whole thing and the customer didn't put a foot wrong so was completely blameless in the whole thing....

I'll be e-mailing SD tomorrow to let them know about this as I thought it was wll out of order with any customer, never mind one with learning difficulties... but since I can see them fobbing me off, thought I would let fellow Staffordians know.

Shocking!

Sports Direct is one of those shops I dislike going into but do because of the bargains, and that is the problem. Shops like Sports Direct and Poundland pile them high and keep them cheap so the shops are really crowded and keep staff to the minimum, so there is a trade off between getting a bargain and having good customer service/experience.I'm sure some would say low wages don't encourage shop workers to aspire to give good service but I wouldn't totally agree because there is many instanceses of good service in retail and caterering and in Sports Direct's case they have paid out some serious bonuses to all their staff over the past few years and you would have thought that would have been a big incentive to offer good service.

No excuse for manners like that in customer service, even if you were paid peanuts! It gives you no right to be rude to paying or prospective customers.

After looking in nearly every shop in town for a backpack for son,as a last resort,we went to Sports Direct last Saturday .
There was one long queue , 3 people serving ,with the people reaching the front of the queue going to the next available till. All working perfectly well until........We reached the front of the queue, a till became available, we walked over quickly with our goods only to reach it the same time as someone coming from the other direction and straight to the tills.
Hubby pointed out that there was a long queue and people had been waiting ages.A shop assistant then appears, says "there's 3 tills so she's entitled to walk straight up to it!" Tells the girl on the till to serve her and walks off.

If sons bag hadn't been just what he wanted after traipsing around Stafford for hours we would have slung the goods down & walked out.

As we were being served another assistant who had the commonsense to realise what was happening ,did then start grabbing people who had been queuing and telling the cashiers to serve them next.

To add insult to injury we were then told if we wanted a carrier bag it would cost 66p ! No way ,and it's now lost them a customer for good !

Can't understand the free for all queing at Sports Direct, you would have thought it would be easy to introduce a single que that most shops use which are normally utilised to sell impulse buys, socks etc

I have witnessed shoddy customer service invloving my wife and Gamestation. I used to be a regular at Gamestation, went in weekly and was a recognised face. The guys who worked there knew that i own a lot of consoles including all of the current gen. Went in with my wife who wanted to play a game that had just been released. She wasn't bothered about playing it on the ps3 so asked a member of staff for the cheaper ps2 version of the game. Said member of staff began to laugh at and ridicule her for still playing ps2 games.

When i went over to ask him to pack it in i was told "if you don't like it you know where the door is mate". A door i used and never went back to Gamestation again. The daft thing is i used to spend alot of money in there on games for myself and games for gifts.

I must say that all the other staff that worked there were always great to me and mrs arcadesteve. But this one guy put us both off shopping there and sent us to amazon for our games. They the highstreet is dying, but some of the people who work on the highstreet don't do themselves any favours.

I don't like Sports Direct, can't move in there or find anything, it is all too difficult, shame Woolies is no longer there.

My own personal experience of Sports Direct is wholly positive, customer service has been good.
I agree, though I do take Camsnan's point as I too have to take a deep breath before I go in as it is a bit claustrophobic.
