Great. Another decent Stafford pub bites the dust. Where the hell am I supposed to go for a pint when I'm waiting for a train?!
Damn - I never thought of that. How many hours of my life could I have been waiting for my 'slightly delayed' service in the pub rather than on the platform.

Arse!

For a *decent pint if you're delayed at the station, the closest one open would be the The Railway, or maybe The Bird in Hand.

* Read decent as real ale.

Opposite the prison, behind the hideous, unsellable new apartments.
 I'm not the only one that doesn't like those apartments then?
These apartments do have one advantage though, they block my view of the nick when i look out of the greyhound windows.
But can they be callled apartments ( or,as the sign says "APARMENTS",obvious the makers don't have spellcheck on their PC's) or pokey little boxes?
Hideous does some them up though, they're just not in keeping with the area.

Goin off on a tangent here, The Greyhound and the King Arms on Peel Terrace are my two fav pubs, as my three locals in Rising Brook are, well, not the best. Will see what the new look Royal Oak is like soon though. Any one been in yet?

Stafford Arms to be Demolished by Henry's Cat!

Are you really going to knock it down Henry's Cat?

Henry's Cat is back for a special one-off episode... but its the evil Rum Baa Baa who is trying to knock the pub down.

am i the only person who thought it should have been knocked down ten years ago...along with the station?
why on earth would you knock down the station?? :?:

take that!
i'm not adverse to train staion's per se, but ours is an eye sore, not really the best first impression you want to give to people on arrival of the county town. i don't really think it should be knocked down but it could look less shit with a bit of work.

Yes, a decent rebuild in a victorian style better suited to its Castletown location would be cool. Not sure why you'd want to knock down the Arms, though. I'd much prefer to see the Merc garage moved out of town.

I walked past what used to be the Stafford Arms this morning, and it has now been completely razed to the ground....a very sad sight. The only good thing to come of it is that the workers have discovered an old sign from before the Arms was the Arms...I asked if I could have it, but they say it's going on eBay :grr:

Does anyone know any more about 'Stephenson's Rocket Free House'?

I really hope the truck carrying away the bricks crashes into the Merc garage. And then the owner finds his insurance won't cover it.

they were demolishing it when i left stafford at the beginning of last week.

i was going to go and take some photos to put up here....but then i would have missed my train back to sheffield.

I notice The Lamb is closed too. There's a note on the window saying money owed for the bonus ball would be returned, and all stock has been removed. This would imply it closed suddenly and won't be open any time soon. Does anyone know what happened here?
The Lamb has now reopened. We went there for a pint on the way to town a few days ago...not much has changed except they've cleaned the toilets, which were revolting. No sign of any food as yet, but I think they are planning to start at some point.

Yes, I've been in there a couple of times, and it's the same as it ever was. They're planning to do food soon, but need the health inspectors to check the kitchens before they're legal.

It was certainly my 'local' from when I first moved to Stafford in 2001, to when it closed. The first landlord I remember was Bob Bell, and he was great. When did you stop going there? If it was after 2001, we've probably met! :D

Bob Bell was never a Stafford licensee - although he thought that he was. He was a barman at the Stafford Arms after he worked his magic at the Eagle - where he was also a barman, although he thought that he was the licensee there too.

Ron Roestenburg kept it for a while...

Before becoming Stephensons rocket it was "Roosters in Town" run by Ron Buck ROESTENBURG
who wenton to turn the Kings Head into "Uncle Bucks" before it became a Balti house

My Dad worked on the door some nights when needed and drank in The Rocket regularly. My Brother had his 21st in there too. There used to be a great atmosphere and some of the Rangers lads used to end up there on their tour round town.
One of the bands that played there regularly were the original Oasis who later changed their name to Tora Tora. I am talking about the early to mid 80's so guess Noel & Liam were still in short trousers!

I worked at the stafford arms in 1999/2000 with Bob and while the current landlords at that time were trying hard, Bob thought he ran the place then too....what a character. I can not believe it has gone, I lived there while my parents took over from the titanic brewery, and fine ales they were too, had some fun nights there, and yes I remember Rocky what a legend ;))
