To get people in the mood, here be the Stafford Song

(opens in etc)

I'd be interested to know how many of the http://www.staffordforum.com flock are any number of generations Staffordian. Personally speaking, my folks (with no Staffordian connections whatsoever) moved here not so long after begatting me (so to speak), so i'm very much bred, but very much not born.

It strikes me that many people 'pon our forum are 1st, 2nd or even 3rd generation immigrants to our fair town, and many are economic or academic migrants to boot.

Is there anybody here that can trace their family back to Stafford Past?

If not, the wider question is - what brought you here if your family didn't?

About 7 years ago we spent a fair bit of time here as friends lived here, daughter was in a band here, a few other things but we always found ourself in stafford on a saturday. We loved the town, and still do, so we decided to move here. So born and bred in Telford, but moved here.

I came here because the Poly was like a small country club compared to the other places that I looked at, which were all had an air of what the more positive-thinking would call 'urban regeneration'.

And then never escaped.

i'm the same as you, withnail (well, in this regard, at least lol).. i was born in northern ireland, but moved to the mighty stafford :stafford: before i was 1 year old, so assuming you subscribe to nurture as opposed to nature, i'm as staffordian as anyone else..

i love the fact i was born in northern ireland, and i love my northern-irishisms that i have inherited from my parents, but i definitely consider myself staffordian :D:up:

My dads side parents (My granddad and grandma) lived in Fancy walk, and I believe he was a freeman of the borough and I only found out recently the we had a hyphenated name which was dropped to a single surname by my dad, so I'm 3rd generation Stafford at least, and posh with it!
I haven't followed it back any further though, and that makes my grandson 5th generation!

I came here at the age of 2 (April 1982) due her Majesty Lizz II's request of defending the realm. Pops was in the RAF and given the choice of RAF Newqauy, or RAF Stafford.....he requested Newqauy and got Stafford.

Personally I'm glad pops did get this posting, Staffords a great town, and I most certainly would not have the circle of friends I have now, not the gorgeous lady I intend to marry soon.

I'm rooted in the town, wayyyyyy back!
On Mum's side we go back as far as I can find and on my Dad's side my Gran came from Aston but Grandad was local, in fact he lived in Castletown before marrying Gran, I was brought up in Castletown, Mum & Dad have both passed on after living round here and I still live here.

In fact, i think this is going back maybe 3(?) generations of my family -

And then I look at the picture for the umpteenth time and read it all and realise how many times I've stood in the premises that will now be the back end of The Shrew!

I'd forgotten that there must be many military migrants, as well as the economic and academic ones.

Come to think of it, isn't Mr. Sofa of the ^above Stafford Song militarily connected to the Ford?

great-great granparents on me mums side were born and bred in Stafford, lived in Marston then Aston Terrace. Grandad worked at the Salt Mines, always use to tell the story of the luftwaffe machine gunning him as he ran up the garden path, killed his pig though! My Dad buggered up the Staffordian line as he was a clayhead.

Parents moved here from Rugeley in 50's, brother born in Grounslow. I was born on the Stone Road in 63. The 'Venerable Mrs Seed' born in Holmcroft in 64. Both went to Holcroft Primary/Nursary School (bizarly now called Tillington!), then Balfour I lived in Sheffield, then moved to Scarborough to be with 'The 'Venerable Mrs Seed' . I then came back to 'Ford, before followed her to Rochdale, then we both came back to 'The Holy City' with one sprog, before the other two were born here! :stafford:

(I'f you are suffering from insomnia/derrangement, or both, the full tale is to be found here!! :xd: You have been warned! :emo: Ed ) http://www.staffordforum.com/xf/index.php?threads/un-petit-peu.3354/
