Stafford Internet Retailer Closes Owing Thousands

Enjoying a drop of red.
Pity the owners couldn't place the same level of scrutiny that they seem to be placing on monitoring Facebook etc. for nasty comments as they should have in monitoring their finances and the lack of refunds being taken from daily transactions on Streamline.

A COUPLE of comic book collectors have turned their hobbies to profit launching a burgeoning online store cashing in on the growing craze for cult collectibles.
When former police officer Kathhryn Valler, 32, met marketing man Liam Fisher, 33, on an online dating site, their shared love of comic book and movie memorabilia set the scene for a prosperous future.

Twelve months later, in June last year, the couple started www.mothersbasement.co.uk and are now predicting a turnover of £350,000 at the end of their first year of trading after the business boomed.
“The online business focuses on specialist models in supersize boxes, some destined never to be removed from their packaging,” said Liam.
He said with cult movies like The Hobbit pulling in the crowds at the box office business had soared with the pair importing and selling a wide range of action figures and replica props for the popular film.
Mr Fisher said the couple had started out by building up an online following using Facebook and Twitter with the Facebook page achieving more than 7000 “likes”, their Twitter account closing in on 2,000 individual followers and the company website notching up 57,879 unique visitors each month.
“The site is one-stop shop for everything, from movie memorabilia to pop culture, gaming and comic books merchandise,” said Kathryn. “Such is its success already, we are anticipating a turnover in our first year of £350, 000.
The couple who run the business from their home in Stafford and out of a nearby storage unit sell a wide range of products that can’t be found on the high street.

The number of people who have lost money is far greater than thought was thought yesterday. The facebook group Mothers Basement Has My Money shows that collectors have lost tens of thousands in deposits to this local company.

Just noticed you posted the same thing yesterday. Any particular reason for posting it twice?

http://www.staffordforum.com/xf/ind...-closing-in-stafford.2265/page-53#post-214496

that was a single post in a massive thread, that is likely to get overlooked/missed by most people.. this (much more sensibly) is a dedicated thread, so much more likely to get noticed by anyone who is interested..

i hate "megathreads" such as the above for exactly this reason.. i'm always missing interesting little nuggets of info/news because i haven't got time to wade through dozens of posts under some generic thread title..

That makes the whole "It was just the refunds not being paid back" seem ludicrous, you'd notice tens of thousands extra in your account! Also if no refunds were ever given out in 3 months you'd surely notice that?

I do love a geek rebellion. If only we could have photos!

If I had to have people after me then geeks would be low on the list, they tend to have much more available time and don't get bored too easy. They also tend to be better at Internets!
