Stafford is Closed!

I went into town today to buy a new camera and found that half the shops were either closed or empty!

I have now bought one on the internet so local business has lost out!

So who exactly were closed ?, because asda, sainsburys, tesco, boots, currys, argos and maplins all were open and all sell cameras (ok digital but still cameras although i still prefer my trusty om10) the only other camera shop i can think of is peter rogers and i would never begrudge them a day off as the service they offer is always outstanding.

There is Jessops, too. Don't know if they open on a Sunday, though.

Enjoying a drop of red.

Jessops is closed on a Sunday.

I believe Currys, PC World and Comet sell cameras and were also open.

So in all that makes a minimum of 10 shops that sell cameras open today. Hardly appropriate to title the thread as Stafford is Closed I'd say

All shops should be closed on Sundays

Pubs limited to 12.00 to 2.30 openings

Sunday is a day for making a den or walking out

(Apart from one shop for emergency supplies in Rowley Street of course)

Charlie's! Our regular Sunday haunt for mandarin segments and ice cream.

Every week. My mum didn't really go in for variety. Or forward planning. Each Sunday the sudden realisation would hit her that we were out of one or more of the key ingredients for Sunday pudding. Dad and I would be despatched to Charlie's. I loved it because it was an actual house, full of ice cream. I was also introduced to the magical world of libraries at the one in Rowley Street.

It wasn't just camera shopd I was on about there were loads of other shops closed as well, in fact all of Mill Street except the Cup Cake shop!

The two shops I really wanted to have alook at were closed which were Jessops and Peter Rodgers, I wouldn'r buy a camera from any ofd the others listed!

I was thinking the same myself when I went down this morning.

Lots of the town centre shops were either closed on Sundays or closed up for good.

Even Smiths had a sign on the door saying closed on Sundays.

Friday is for Muslims, Saturday is for Jews and Sunday is for Christians!

Thank God there are four religion-free days a week!
When I lived in Cyprus there was no TV on one day of the week - and, in order to avoid appearing to be partisan, they had Thursdays off.

Gotta admit that despite my usual moaning about shops never being open when I'm off work, I'd actually prefer a shop free day once a week anyway. People now work every day of the week, there is little common time off for people to socialise unless you work in the same type of employment. There were rumblings of cancelling bank holidays too, and giving us the chance to choose when to take them. I'd rather a day where I know we are all off work and can get together. Unless you work in retail of course, as loads are still open on a BHM.

Maybe if they had a different day each week off, not open on a Wednesday perhaps, but then the poor sods in the shop still have to work when all their mates are off.

I don't agree with pubs only being 12:00 til 14:30 though :strange:

I imagine that Anthony Rogers needs a day off work after working 6 days from Monday to Saturday. Privately owned shops can't always be open, their owners do need a break from work. I would also imagine that the sales from Sunday trading wouldn't cover the costs of opening.
