Stafford Rangers 131 years about to go down the tubes?
Now let me say at first this is only at the rumour stage, but their are mumurings about amongst the Boro' Faithful, that the club may be going into administration before the week is out.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE IF YOU CARE ONE JOT ABOUT FOOTBALL IN THIS TOWN, KEEP ABREAST OF DEVELOPMENTS. THE MOST POSITIVE THING YOU CAN DO IS GET YOURSELF DOWN TO MARSTON ROAD ON SATURDAY AND WITNESS THE MATCH BETWEEN RANGERS AND NORTHWICH, ALWAYS OUR BITTER RIVALS, AND THE ONLY TEAM BELOW US IN THE LEAGUE.
Now I have no evidence to know whether this is just a rumour or not, but the fact that the club are in debt to the tune of £200,000 - £400,00 is fairly widely accepted.
Putting aside any discussion about how we got into this mess (for now), the fact that we need every 12 quid that comes through that gate, is undeniable. Please, please if you can make it at all, get along to Marston Road this Saturday and show your support for the club.
The team excelled itself by getting into The Blue Square Conference, but quite obviously didn't have the infrastructure to support itself, in what is essentially, a professional league.
Attempting to keep up with better organised and funded clubs, has cost us dear, and the results on the pitch have lead to an alarming drop off in attendances, a double whammy! The board have cut spending, and cost cutting has lead to the Manager taking the pitch, along with his Assistant (before he had to be let go to save money), alonside Neil Grayson our 43 year old striker. A series of crippling injureis and some awful refereeing have contributed to our demise, but you could just as easily blame the manager and/or the board.
THE TRUTH IS, THE FORD'S MAIN TEAM IS IN THE SHIT, AND SINKING PAST ITS EARS. A FEW EXTRA HUNDRED ON THE GATE WON'T SAVE US, BUT IF YOU LIVE IN THIS TOWN, AND ARE A FOOTBALL SUPPORTER, SUPPORT YOUR TOWN'S TEAM THIS SATURDAY. I DON'T CARE IF YOU FOLLOW VILLA, MAN U, CHELSEA, STOKE OR BARCELONA, FOR SATURDAY WEAR SOMETHING BLACK AND WHITE, AND PUT YOUR HAND IN YOUR POCKET FOR "THE BORO'"
The alternative is to watch passively as 131 years of history, FA cup runs, 3 Wembley appearances etc, go down the pan. Yes I know administration is not necessarily the end, but it's a scarey time for those of us passionate about our club. I don't expect people to understand why I drove 340 miles last Saturday to watch Stafford get beaten by the ten men of Ebbsfleet (Gravesend), the Venerable Mrs Seed certainly doesn't, but if you are one of the folks who looks for the Rangers result on the box, or in the papers, make an exception and join the masochists for this game. I can't promise you a win, entertainment or even a decent seat, but I think you'll have a warm feeling in your belly knowing you have done the right thing.
