There have been too many beautiful buildings that have been demolished and replaced by sh*t buildings in Stafford. We have been poorly let down by a council that does not value its heritage or understand quality of design.

I hope we get a forward thinking and proactive council very soon. Please.....

To get an intelligent council you first need intelligent people to stand, then you need enough intelligent people to vote for them

So ...

Description:The Alexandra Hotel was originally built in the late eighteenth century as a town house and business premises for Thomas Lovett, a wine merchant. It was situated on the corner of Greengate Street and Tipping Street.

The building became a public house in the nineteenth century, known as Lloyd's Wine Vaults, and in 1899 was purchased by Eley's Brewery of Stafford. In 1903 the hotel was bought by William Cummins and renamed after Edward VII's queen.

The hotel closed in 1961 and the building was demolished the following year.

Butler’s Bell has a petition going round for it to be... saved? From being sold and turned into a decent pub I guess

I wonder if they realise it’s one of 13+ Spoons up for sale.

They clearly don't realise it won't make a jot of difference....

I don't understand why there is a petition for Butlers Bell not to be sold. It's only a weatherspoons. We've got another one and plenty of other better pubs in Stafford. Give them a try and support your local....

There wasn't a petition when the Lewis family sold the bear or the swan, which in my opinion has had / will have a far more damaging impact on the high street than losing a weatherspoons.

The pub is being sold for a reason, I suspect because it's not making enough money and a rival pub chain is about to open across the way. Will the owner reverse his decision because a few people have signed a petition, I very much doubt it.

There's a surprising number of people that think their local Spoons is a "local pub" instead of a chain.
