The clock is much more recent than that, despite our "memories" of it being there for ever. I think it's this century, I did ask in the shop one day, but I can't remember the specific answer. It may have been a 'millennium thing'. Edit - I have found this message that I sent in November 2018, to someone who claimed that it had definitely been there for as long as she could remember, which could well be true, I suppose... "According to the lad in Peter Roger's shop, the Mill Street clock came around four years ago - no more than five." And this is the reason why it's there.
