Stafford shops opening - Turning into a boom town?

Super large chains are the death of any town.

The town allows them in because they feel it's what the townsfolk* want and need, but the town's held to ransom; chained-up and locked-up, then no one can find the key.

My view, vision and opinion, is, LOTS of little shops.

This was brought to you by the Independents party.

*not everyone, i know!!

New signage outside Subway, looks like it's making a comeback

Funny thing that about sandwich shops.

We were somwhere at the weekend where there was open space and picnic tables.
There was also a takeaway burger place within spitting distance.

So there was myself and husband, using up leftovers from weekend away.
Selection of sandwiches, olives, sun dried tomatoes, various dips, crisps, etc.
Had a lovely chat to others who had also made a picnic.

The queue for the burger bar and take away sandwiches was quite long but no one in the queue was over 30.

Don't young people know how to save money or how to make a sandwich/picnic?

The keyword there is leftovers. Putting together picnicy items can get quite expensive.

Quite often we don't have picnic type leftovers at home - we either cook to portion or use leftovers for workday lunches. You also have to factor in time, I suspect many of the people in that queue were working somewhere and lunch time might be their only escape, and they've been up early and didn't have chance to make anything (that's if there's even space for them to keep food or reheat it if their in work ). It's likely if they are under 30 they are sharing a house with people which will make kitchen, and crucially fridge space limited - again making leftovers harder to have and jars of things take up a lot of space if all you have is a shelf.

As for us, Weekends are usually our treat time.

I don't agree that making sandwiches or a picnic is expensive at all, not compared to buying one in a shop.

but I get your point that not everyone can be bothered making them.

Also aware that my post was judgemental.....apologies.
Everyone is entitled to spend money how they wish.

Nah, not on this forum. In the same way that if some people hold differing political views to the accepted norm on here they are branded scum. By some.

Different is fine

Destroying the economy through ignorance and bigotry slightly less so don't you think

Brief walk into town from Tesco and saw the following;

The old fancy dress shop next to Couture being refurbished.

The vaping shop next to Ali's being fitted out to be a beauticians.

Dilshad refurbed into another Indian

Subway refurbished

Cinema foundations going in.

Not amazing but all positive stuff

Out and about today I saw a good collection of 'let by' and 'under offer' signs in empty shops

- what was Shogun Games next to St. Mary's
- what was a photo shop next to Costa
- what was an estate agents on Slater Street
