I also wouldn't fill up on the motorway, I'm a skinflint!
Was just surprised at the cost, morrisons is 30p I didn't realise they varied so much.
Realistically Rapids are your “oh god I’m not getting home on this charge” stops, as they dump a load of DC straight into your battery very quickly. Had to use one in a pinch in Cannock and had 60% back in 15 minutes on my Leaf. They’re mostly expensive to use because they’re pretty damn big bits of kit with active cooling and such… so expensive to install too. Whereas a fast charger is basically just chucking a high current of 230V AC at your car and your car handles actually turning it into DC for the battery… fast chargers are generally quite compact internally and most of what you see is to make it robust rather than because it’s needed. These are generally ones you use at hotels, longer stay shopping centres, etc…
Basically rapids you pay for the convenience because you really really need it. A fast chargers you
generally won’t pay as much for, and can sometimes get them on subscription plans (Polar Plus) if you use them a lot.
Mostly it’s us plebs with small batteries that need either of them unless on a long trip, if I was driving around in a Model 3 I’d basically never plug it in away from home.
We've both been EVless for a couple of months and can't wait to get back into them again next month.
Thoughts and prayers to you during this difficult time. Can’t imagine going back
