Stafford silly motorways

*waves fist of fury*

Why of why does Stafford have silly motorway bits?

Northbound between junction 12 and 13, the 8-mile marker is upside-down *shakes fist*

Southbound, as you get off J14, our 200 yd marker is missing - and our 300 yd marker is in its place! *shakes leg*

Fury aside - I like our town being odd :D

The 8 has annoyed me for as long as I remember. Every night I drive past it and think about it.

It used to be there, according to StreetView.

I've always found it slightly strange that three of the roads leaving the Redhill roundabout are designated as 'A34', when the motorway link road could easily have been called the 'A513' and any potential for confusion would thus be avoided..

What is this 8-mile marker you speak of? Any chance I could see it on streetview? Edit: don't worry, just realised what you mean!

And speaking of countdown markers, I know it's not a motorway but the 2nd countdown marker to Whitgreave Lane on the A34 is the wrong way round (as in, the markers should be this way / , not this way \ (unless there's a reason for this I'm not aware of - normally they would all face the same way, and depending on the side of the carriageway they're placed).

The upside down 8 has irritated me for years, and there's a sign up near junction 15 that's in the wrong font.

Yea, and there's one just before Junction 16 (I think) coming southbound that states 'For Alton Towers leave at Junction J15'

Let me think??? I wonder if there are any reasons why Stafford West and East are not signposted? I wonder what pleasures (?) Stafford West and East must hold that they are not publicised.

More rarely: doxie / doxey , a word now regarded as archaic, but still widely known.
Etymology: Possibly derived from the Dutch docke , meaning dull, or from the English dock , meaning buttocks or tail.
1. A girl or woman.
2. Originally, in Shakespeare's days, a wench, a trollop (a promiscuous woman) or a prostitute. See prostitute for synonyms.
3. A mistress. See mistress for synonyms.
Do such as these frequent Doxey?? I do quite fancy the idea of a trollops buttocks!
