Bagnall’s toy shop was on Eastgate Street, a couple of doors up from what is now the Theatre Bar, and is now an estate agent.

There was also Boult’s toy shop on Mill Street, somewhere opposite the bike shop.

The Salter Street shop has appeared since the demise of Bagnall’s and Boults. It is an independent family concern. The shop was formerly an upmarket ladies’ dress shop, selling ball gowns etc.

I always thought Bagnalls was on Salter Street. I don't think it becomes Eastgate Street until after the junction with Market Street.

The dress shop used to be part of the clothes shop on Mount Street as well.

There are street nameplates there - what is now DB Roberts is on Salter Street, Clothier/Dourish Day is on Eastgate Street. Unfortunately Street View has blurred the plates a bit on the current picture - here.

Bagnalls!

What a throwback! Thank you - had forgotten all about it!

So many memories in there!

Popped into Salter Street today. While I usually expect it to be more expensive than everywhere else, I price checked a few things in store and found them to be just as reasonable as online retailers. Also love being able to see things "in the flesh" as much easier to gauge size and quality. There's less model making stuff over on the right now which is a good move I think. Absolutely tonnes of stocking filler ideas and the puzzle section is my favourite!

I agree. - I'm a modeller but I don't think I've ever bought anything in there, though I do go in from time to time. Hobbycraft and the railway model shop on Marston Road have that base well covered.
