Does anyone know if there are any parts of this old line that are walkable north of stafford. Cheers

Apart from the stretch from Castletown to the MOD fence, I don't think that any of the rest of it is officially accessible, though some sections are still traceable.

Fonzie and Vespa know their stuff on this subject - I'm sure they'll be along shortly....

The bit from Beaconside to Salt and Weston has pretty well disappeared, but it's walkable from near A51 towards Stowe. Not sure about the tunnel closer to Uttox, though!

Sorry for the late reply, currently on holiday in Switzerland and Italy....

Only the part between Castletown and the MOD is indeed offically open to the public.
From the old Stowe by Chartley station to Chartley Moss is a nice bit that you can walk.
It gives a nice view from the old Chartley castle.
Past Chartley moss there is also a path, but as with all the other paths not officially open to the public.
On the Stafford side you can get down to the tunnel entrance. But the tunnel is severly flooded.
Take high boots (or even better waders) a hard hat, a good torch and an upgrade to your life insurance, before going in......

I'd have thought a chord from the new contentious HS2 line where it crosses the old Stafford to Uttoxeter line would bring tangible benefits to Stafford by being able to run a Javelin like commuter service over the line.

Cheers for that. Think I'll give it a miss. Not up for hearing the sound of a farmer cocking his shotgun at a trespassing amateur like me.

I've looked at that page before but doesn't throw up any pics on my I phone. Will look again on a PC. Never been a train spotter but I do have a bit of a strange interest in disused lines all of a sudden.
