Revelation: the temporary lights on Lichfield road across Riverway are actually an improvement, as they treat the north and southbound Lichfield road traffic separately so turning right isn't almost impossible.

Maybe not for those going straight ahead, but eh.

Well people do want the roads and footpaths relaying which is the case for around the sun inn and riverway and peeps have been going on about a new bypass forever.

Yet people seem shocked this work for supposed improvements most folk want creates inconvenience for a period.

Of course this wouldn't happen if highways could make those magic fairies simply lay tarmac overnight.

Of course if people who live in live and work in Stafford would rather sit on their arses in a car park instead of walking or biking it on a beautiful day.....well you know the rest.....Oh the humanity of it lol.
Yes the work needs doing, i don't think anyone other than @kyoto49 could argue with that.

Many people might wonder, however, why the work couldn't have been tagged on to the end of the TWO YEARS or roadworks that STWA did though and saved all the added stress and damage to local business.

All the traffic lights along Foregate Street have been taken off their poles today!!! Good riddance!!! :bananafunk:
That'll teach the buggers. Coming over here & taking our jobs, houses, benefits & now the bloody traffic lights. At least we got those back without brexit.

A SECTION of a Stafford town centre road will be closed from Sunday as part of a £114,000 improvement project at a busy junction.

Resurfacing, drain and kerb repairs are being carried out at the junction of the A34 Lichfield Road and Riverway.

From this Sunday, the southbound lane of Riverway will be closed for a 100 metre stretch from the A34 junction. Temporary traffic lights will also be in operation on the A34 Lichfield Road.

The main resurfacing work will be carried out overnight, between 7pm and 7am from Monday, March 20 to Friday, March 24, and all work is due to finish by Monday, March 27.

During these times Lichfield Road will be closed completely for 100 metres each side of the Riverway junction, while Riverway will be closed completely for 100 metres from the junction.

Staffordshire County Council's highways leader Mark Deaville said: "Lichfield Road is a busy route into Stafford and we're keen to carry out these essential improvements as quickly as possible. We're carrying out the main resurfacing work overnight to minimise disruption.

"It will also be necessary to close a short section of the southbound section of Riverway. We'd urge people to allow additional time for their journeys if travelling in the area and plan alternative routes if possible.

"We would like to thank people in advance for their patience."

Safe to assume all traffic will be sent down St Leonards next week then.

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
Riverway has been closed all week from Fairway to Lichfield Road so next week isn't going to be any different from this week.

It will if Lichfield Road is going to be closed at night too. Where else will they divert traffic?
Saw the signs today, didn't realise they were shutting Lichfield Road in the evening. Won't be good at all.

Car transporter on the double yellows blocking one lane on Newport Road at 17:00 causing rush hour congestion.
Where are the traffic wardens when there's a genuine parking issue?

Ticketing people on Mill Street or surrounding Riverside who've overstayed by 1 minute.

It's where the big profits are to be made.

One ticket on a transporter that's bringing half of town to a standstill (again) isn't worth the shoe-leather.
