I have a video somewhere of 2 lads doing exactly the same thing in front of a train - the driver hit the brakes, but trains weigh a lot more and take much longer to stop

They missed being hit by inches

As if there wasn't enough roadworks going on in Stafford, at the Staffordshire tech park they're messing around with the entrance road and crossing.

Basically moving the controlled crossing to where the uncontrolled crossing is, taking it down to one crossing and putting a nice uncontrolled crossing on the entrance road which will block the road if someone's parked up by the post box (which they quite often are).

What a total waste of time and money.

Obviously being done because of the new school opening and they don't think they can trust children to cross the road. But no doubt they'll all be dropped off on the tech park by their parents in big 4x4s anyway.

FYI 3 children have been hit by cars, seriously injured & hospitalized in Stafford in the last 3 days.

My thoughts are with all those involved.

Yes, but surely if you want to make that road safer then there are better ways. Firstly, drop the speed limit down to 30MPH around that area.

Secondly, the traffic light crossing does not need to move, just close the uncontrolled crossing. This is much cheaper and less disruptive.

I reckon they are moving the Pelican crossing to the side nearest the new Army housing development to encourage children to use it. If they need to cross the road to then go through the technology park to get to the new school, children are more likely to use if it is nearer the houses than on the other side of the lights.

I see lots of people crossing Baswich Lane about 100 yards or so from the Pelican crossing by Porlock Avenue and then walking up Porlock instead of walking to the crossing and using it. It saves a little time and distance so that's why it happens. It's human nature to take the shortest walking route, especially when children are involved.

The Pelican crossing was put in the wrong place on Baswich Lane, it should have gone further down (prob where people are crossing) where the Crossing a Lady used to be. The current crossing has one side on a very narrow stretch of path, very dangerous.

The M6 was closed southbound between 13 and 12 is backed up to 14 so added in town congestion

Terrible traffic this morning - 14 minute wait at Brocton crossroads and the Wolverhampton Road going into town was solid too but a lot worse for drivers going the other way.

I know that's a joke @kyoto49 but that problem does exist and it's a big problem. I've seen many near misses with cyclists going through the red light onto the footpath and nearly hitting someone. There aren't many cyclists who actually stop at red lights now.

I shall keep a count of how many motor vehicles I see running red lights before I see the next cyclist do it. I got up to six yesterday, I haven't been out yet today...
