Sozzard, I'm being very dim. (I have only lived here for 20yrs you know, you can't expect me to know everywhere!) Last time I went & had to avoid Milford I just went down the A51...
You could do that, it's just a bit more tedious than the 'pretty way'.

Oh, God....

Into town, along Weston Road (Tixall Road is a mess, as well), out to the new Knot & Plough roundabout, turn right past the Crem, turn left at the Crem lights, turn right in Tixall at the obelisk, turn left when you arrive at the Shugborough entrance and you'll be on the road you would have used before the excavations blocked it up...

Take plenty of food and water - and overnight equipment, just in case.
There's an OBELISK at Tixall ???

Seriously, I don't think I've ever been to Tixall, & l haven't been near the Knot & Plough roundabout since before the knot & plough was built!

Yeah, past the smallest house in Stafford!
I would say it was this side...

Utter chaos at W R Davies this lunchtime - digging the road just by the surgery exit, but they had decided to park their van blocking the left-hand lane at the "White Lion" lights - thus, if the first car in the queue was going onto the Queensway or Newport Road and was blocked by the junction being full off cars coming round the roundabout, then nobody could go anywhere, even if the second car in the queue (me) only wanted to go up Wolverhampton Road.

I spent two light changes there and, if I'd known that I had the time, then I would have got out and asked them if they'd found any parts of a pub in the hole.

Noticed their van parked blocking that one lane as I walked past at lunchtime as well. (If you saw someone walking scoffing a bag of chips.. could well have been me).
Did think myself that they could have parked the van and tractor type thing parked behind it on the pavement instead as it's plenty wide enough there. Could have freed up quite a lot of that left-hand lane by the lights!

As motorists in Stafford, we are there to be treated with contempt by all and sundry, not least the utility companies and their lackeys. The more we can be inconvenienced the better.

When I came down the Wolverhampton Road about 2.30pm today, the lights at the junction with Silkmore Lane were out of order and temporary lights were in place. The powers that be had also blocked off one lane going into town.

I came back through there last night, about 1 am, and they were off then.

The clever workpeople on Beaconside have decided that traffic isn't enough and have created a nice flood via a hole in the water main.
