Just driven *down/along/up the new road, seems a long way into Castlefields to get onto the thing.
The only reason I can see myself using it for is to go directly ti Lidl, without having to go round the houses so to speak.
Just how much of the marshes has it taken up, if at all?

So the tree police are here cutting down the trees on madford carpark atm. You'd have thought they'd have kept them to help with the flooding....

My understanding was an area at the back of the car park would be handed back to nature and increase the floodable area. Maybe we will see an increase in tree planting along the side of the new route to help soak water up as well as emissions? I have 6 saplings/small trees in my garden that will be planted locally. Imagine if we all did that!!

I've planted 3 trees in my small garden and 6 at the allotment. I have no more space. Plant trees people!

I do have an early 19th century gardening book which contains the wonderful instruction "Every garden, no matter how small, should have at least an acre of woodland." Rather out of touch even then.

Still, my small suburban type garden does have 3 apple trees, 3 pear trees, a greengage, a damson, two medlars, a catalpa, a strawberry tree, a juniper, two hazels, a cob, a mulberry & two figs (plus two birch trees planted by the developers). The half dozen beeches and the black walnut in pots might get a bit much if planted out though.

This is what comes of planting trees in yer garden. On the left an Oak tree I planted in 2009. On right how it looked last summer. It's gone bloody barmy,

..... and don't even get me started about the Ash tree I planted only 7 years ago, which is threatening my aerials ....

Ashtree planted in 2013 on the left and last summer on the right. You can just make out my main aerial wire to the right of the tree. It's getting close although I rarely put above 40 watts into it.

Both trees were given to me in the village pub. Do you think they know something I don't ? :hmm:

I'm considering taking mine over Castlefields balancing lake as there's a big open patch. The area will have more buildings soing up and more traffic passing so there will be more CO2 to soak up and more run off to drink!!

I heard today that householders on Castlefields are claiming compensation, up to £6k, from the Highways Agency for the access road devaluing their properties.

Surely their solicitors would have advised them of the road wouldn't they? If not shouldn't the solicitors be paying the compensation not the taxpayer?

I would have thought householders on Doxey Road would have more of a claim if they have been in residence for some time.

Yes indeed, and wasn't it blatantly obvious that Kingsway would NOT have been built as a duel carriageway if it was only ever meant as access to half a dozen cul de sacs off Martin Drive and Redgrave Drive ?

And all the houses in Castletown were built a bit to late for claiming compensation for the railway line devaluing their properties !
