Just found a page on the Staffordshire Highways website, which I believe is new, and lists work that they are soon to carry out.

Some points of interest:
* Newport Road resurfacing, Castlefields to Bridge Street.
* Beaconside resurfacing, RAF to Sandon Road.
* Closure and infilling of Holmcroft subway.

You know I've never actually been in that subway, but pass it every day. Does it actually need filling though? Surely that costs money, and pushes the druggie north end chav scum back above ground. I hope none of them see my shiny things :(

Just an update...

Holmcroft Subway now filled in, Newport Road resurfacing in starting next Monday, Beaconside resurfacing this week sometime.

From the website - more points of interest:

Town Centre Bus Stop improvements
A518:
- Junction improvements - Hospital
- Right turn bay at Westhead Avenue / St. Thomas' Street
- Roundabout lanes at Weston Road/Beaconside
- Right turn lane at Weston Road / Birkdale Drive
A34:
- Stafford North bus lane (Redhill to Holmcroft)
- Stafford South bus lane (Baswich to Overhill Road)
- Wildwood signals
- Old Croft Road junction improvement
- Baswich / Weeping Cross roundabout
- Queensville retail park roundabout improvements

By no means a complete list but I've tried to pick out significant works that are likely to affect a large number of people in Stafford! The full list is on the page linked to in post #1.

On the subject of bus-stops, there is a bus-stop on Marston Road, in front of Lockwell's, at the end of Lovatt Street. It looks to have been re-lined in the not too distant past and has what looks to me like a current sign, but I don't remember there being a bus route up Marston Road for many years. Anybody know any different? Otherwise, it's just taking up two or three car parking spaces..

If it was a cycle lane there would be cars parked on it - obviously.

I notice that they haven't bothered to re-instate the pointless cycle lane down the side of the old library. Remind me to get a shot of the world's most pointless bit before they cover that - the six foot section on the little triangular island as you would leave Attwood's roundabout to go to the now defunct multi-storey..

If it's still there.

Oh by the way get a shot of the world's most pointless bit before it's covered......

Reckon you could still make like a secret tunnel under neath the subway once it's been filled? Or maybe someone in the future will one day re-discover our filled in subways.

I know that the one that they filled in on Parkside last year cost 80k to fill and landscape and that was half the size of the Holmcroft one.
