I hear they have an esteemed visitor coming to the 4th floor today, Lord Heseltine, I wonder if they will open with soz about the mess.

I doubt they'll go bust but it must be costing them a few quid to put right.... Do construction contractors take out "almighty cock up" insurance to cover themselves?

Hearing very strong rumours that the contractors have gone bump. No work been done on "faulty towers" in several weeks. At least it means quieter times for the poor unfortunate inmates.

Not sure what that means for the 'zero cost' to the council on getting the building patched up? Give us an F, give us an I, give us an A, give us an S, give us a C, give us an O!

Which contractor?

It won't be VolkerFitzpatrick that's gone bust, they're a big company and are involved in more than construction.

What ever happens, when it's all been 'fixed' and the scaffolding has been removed, can you imagine, just for a second, if, lets say, that one tile has the nerve to fall off again!!!?

...You try something different other than the usual tosh that was around in the 70's and 80's ie cheap brick build and what happens? you get the wrong constructors in to do the job, other people see the problems involved with doing something different and before you know it, we've a repeat of the 70's and 80's ...circle of life!

Traditional can look good if done well. Always let somebody else try something new and if it works then use it.

well said United57 but i'm talking about the worst case we're-going-to-build-a-new-council-building-and-not-spend-much-on-it scenario, and opt for cheap brick, bog standard, brick shed build instead, with no creativity and little idea of making such important buildings an example of fine and well designed architecture.

Instead of doing the above (the easier route) they went for a striking build (which i think is great, problems aside) but it's biting them on the ass, and of course public back lash will see the end of the council trying anything like this again anytime soon.

70's and 80's isn't quite traditional for atleast another 40 years!

i also hope (for the sake of keeping Stafford, well ...Stafford) that this building looks great and in keeping and sympathetic to its surroundings!

Perhaps a thread on that building needs starting, if it hasn't already.

Noticed earlier that hideous white pedestrian signs have gone up between the station and Staffordshire Place, completely out of keeping with the much nicer heritage style pedestrian signs for everything else around the town.

Signs you say? I notice our self appointed high class joint the poke house has garish signage out front, advertising £1.50 snacks

All about finding your level really innit

I'm surprised no one has commented on the level of frenetic activity this past week at Staffordshire Place with the area being significantly cleaned up. Scaffolding and building materials being taken away; window cleaners van there all week; temporary fencing disappeared; paving being jet blasted....

Someone visiting on Tuesday morning. Official opening. That sort of thing. I might bring me camera if they let me take it into the building.
