Staffs County Council in times of Austerity

Just been to have the guys at the Island car wash do the magic to the old bus and was admiring a new shiny black Jaguar XJ lwb. Whilst waiting for the guys to finish I was chatting to the driver who told me the car was the official county vehicle. I then caught on with the plate S333SCC.

Surely in these cash strapped times and after the Scaffoldshire Towers fiasco the authority could have spent our pennies a bit wiser? The diesel version of this car is £70k ( I didn't enquire about the propulsion mode).
They could have bought a number of smaller hybrid vehicles and saved the environment the Vauxhall Ampera is £34k.
Great example of lets buy big and shiny.

Alas, our elected councillors are very happy to inflict austerity on the voting public, but not so keen to apply it to themselves.

It's not real money, just taxes, so it can be splashed out at a whim. It doesn't matter as long as Councillor's expenses aren't affected.

Funny how in these times of austerity government borrowing is still rising, I thought we were all in this together! Oh yes, WE are.
