about 3 or 4 day ago i had a grey tomcat follow me home . i got to my front door and after fighting my way past the cat managed to get inside. since then the cat won't leave me alone..its sits right on my door step! everytime i open the door to go out it runs inside. i was out in garden last night and i thought the cat had finally gone. Later i found the bloody cat in my bed!!!where ever i go the cat follows me.
i haven't fed the cat.
any suggestions?

nah no collar. debating on tieing a note round his neck, knowing my luck tho, the cat would end up getting it caught and end up strangling itself. hes definatly not a stray and is very healthy looking. lovely friendly cat...looks nearly the same as one of mine apart from mine has a white patch :). i woudn't mind the cat so much if it had been neutered. i'm worried incase it starts spraying! supprisingly my two cats seem to like the cat! they're all laying outside my front door together now ...wierd

I hope he wasn't left behind from the previous people... it's good he gets along with your cats though! Would be horrid if they fought :< Maybe they're related.... >.>

From the gist of this thread it sounds very much as if the cat used to live there. If you have only been there for 6 weeks it is quite possible that the unscrupulous previous residents have moved on and simply left the poor animal behind - there are unfortunatley some pretty mean, horrible people about.

It probably can't understand why you are just shutting it out hence why it dashes in as soon as you crack a door open. It seems you have two logical choices:

1) Keep the cat, perhaps put a "found" notice with a description in the local shops or paper and see if anyone comes forward to claim (probably unlikely)

2) Take the cat to a rescue and hope that it gets a nice home

i've spoken to all the neighbours ( cat also came), they said as far as they know the last people who lived here never had a cat and they've never seen the cat before since the last few days .won't be eliminating the possibility just yet though..
For now i think i'm jst gonna leave the cat where he is and see if he goes home. i don't really want to take him in just yet because i'll have to get him neutered and i don't really want to do that incase it turns out he has family. he looks well fed anyway, so should be ok for now :)

just found out the cat has been missing for a few weeks and it does live in derrington.
Remember the black cat that was found , neutered and kept by a forum user? well i just spoke to a friend of the original owner. they have still been looking for the cat, i've just put them out of their misery..poor things

cut a piece of paper to be about collar sized and write a note on it then glue it round the cats neck - it wont get stuck, the collar will just rip off. And it's really cheap!

Yeah probably best not to encourage him. Maybe he is new to the area himself, his own family have moved in nearby, and he's decided he likes your lot! One of my two cats is very friendly and the neighbours often tell me he's come round for a visit and they have to chase him out (although I think some people don't chase him out - which is why he is getting so rotund!). To them he would have just appeared in the area and started following them around.

ack that's aweful!

Didn't the lady who has him post her number on here? cant they call her and demand their cat back? Just because shes fed, neutered and chipped it doesn't mean it is her cat!

so is your new friend going back home now? at least you'll know where to send him again if he comes back!

In the 80s I found a dog that looked lost and so I rang the number on his collar and walked him home, as it was only about a mile away. Eighteen months later he arrived again - and about two years after that he was waiting for me when I got back from work..

i still don't know who the actual owner is lol..i'll have to ask around .. hopefully the owner will neuter him so he doesn't keep wondering off!

Oh my god! That's horrible! D:

At our old flat, this ginger cat would always just come on in, we didn't encourage it at first but it just decided it was gonna do whatever! I spoke to the neighbours and it apparently did a circuit and just went in peoples homes etc. Then it seems they (gingers owner) got a new little boy. At first he'd sniff around the door step, following ginger but waited there if he let himself in, then got cheeky and just started coming in too! Then they started turning up everyday when NXRK came in from work, they never went past the office/entrance room even with the hall door open but at one point I was really poorly and ginger shot past NXRK and just jumped on the bed and started smooching my face and nuzzling me! /cat stories I really wanted to claim them but obviously wouldn't, they only lived over the road.
