My mate posted on Facebook last night that they open Saturday with first drink free. Don't hold me on the last bit though. Drove past today and there's furniture out at the front and a parasol and a cover on the side, presumably for a smoking area. Looks very tidy.

It looks as if it should be open, I hoping to pop in for a snifter shortly. If it's open I'll report back.

It's open & serving, initial thought they have kept the integrity of the place and put a lot of thought into it, feels more open and better quality. Nice atmosphere and selling cask ale and all advertising they are showing wolves games.

It's getting better & better, apparently they do Sunday roasts & pub grub Monday to Friday!

Match probably not on tomorrow as landlord still waiting his sky card, but it looks like they are looking at showing sky sports 3d and 3pm matches, asked about food this will be starting in a couple of weeks. Still seems quite jolly, seems like it's got a lot of potential to do well.

Went in last night, impressed with the re-furb. Couple of pints of Dartmoor Summer Gold - very good. I think the refurbs quite tatesful in so much a lot of the original fixtures have been retained, and the extension to the beer garden at the side is has been done well. Didn't catch the new landlords name (Craig?) a yoiung couple good luck to them

Why do pubs have to spoil the place by installing bloody Sky Sports...
Because it brings in the punters who like a few beers and to watch a game of football.

Pubs have to do everything to survive.

Agreed, I hate footy but I don't provide enough custom for a pub to run. You need every punter you can get.

I know its a generalisation, but I often find pubs quite unpleasant places to be when football is on. The sign "big screen Sky Sports" is enough to put me off going in a pub!!

The economics is an interesting one - as pubs have to pay pretty hefty subscription to screen Sky Sports, so you need a lot of extra trade to pay for it. IIRC around the time the smoking ban was introduced, a lot of pubs took their big screen Sky Sports out because it put people off coming in to eat food - and that was where the money was, not in screening footy matches.

I agree, I avoid pubs if there is a match on. They do always seem busy though, with people that drink a lot. I can only assume that balances out the sky costs, or they'd all stop?

I went to the railway yesterday evening to taste the beer, watch a good game of football and listen to Wolverhampton/Liverpool fans moaning about their bad luck.

Ah the railway, so who's running that place now?....
Yep....Neil's there and is doing a bloody good job.

Back on to the Star...I went in with 2 friends at about 2pm today. They've done a cracking job inside and out...really enticing as a customer.

The prices are great; a good selection of ales starting from 2.20 and a few different lagers, all for less than 3 quid.

We'd gone there for a drink and food, but unfortunately food doesn't start til the end of next week, as far as I remember. They're doing a 'come and taste some samples of our tasty menu' night a week today (Wed 21st) so you can pop along and try it all out. 7pm I think it starts.

All looking great, and if the food matches the service/beers/decor etc then this could be a little gem.

....but don't tell anyone...
