As much as my little one and I like watching the murmurations above the house and surrounding area, I'm getting somewhat tired of cleaning the s**t off the cars (of which there is a lot!!!). I don't ever remember it being so bad. Any idea how long we expect our flying friends to be around?

Im surprised noone has mentioned this before.. watching them is absolutely amazing. 3 or 4 massive swarms flying around there must be 10000 together creating amazing shapes.

Whereabouts is this?

They'll pair off soon i'd have thought - especially if it keeps on being this Springy.

Would this be about dusk? The railway bridge I can see from the A449 just past the Garth?

I've been looking for a spot to see them this year - they left my previous home the same time I did (possibly more to do with the removal of the miscanthus reeds than my own departure) and I've had no luck tracking them down.

I've had to start parking my car in a different area because every day it gets covered with bird droppings /

They used to be classed as vermin so you were allowed to shoot them, but numbers have declined in the last 20 years so they are no longer a UK pest species.
As long as people allow them to nest and breed in their houses they will be back in far greater numbers each year.
Apparently although you are not allo0wed to kill them you can scare them.
I have just read that one guy uses fireworks, he fires rockets into the flock and that sometimes moves them.
Please don't do this they move into my area

The bridge on Silkmore Lane is a great spot.

Makes me sad to hear of people firing fireworks at birds, what is wrong with some people?

The birds have been flying above my house every night and yes my car is covered in muck again and again, watching them I know when they are leaving by which direction they start to gather and myself and neighbours go outside and give the cars a quick hose! I would never consider scaring them I think ourselves lucky to be entertained every night with this beautiful display of nature they are gorgeous to watch. I will quite miss them when they pair off!

Shocking to think people are doing that! where is this happening? Personally, I haven't heard/seen any and I'm normally right in the centre of the action.

Even more impressive when they fly within metres of the windows. Wow!
