Classic Car Show time again at the Castle - free entry, but £3 to park. Some of the usual suspects have been on display in the Market Square today.

Always worth a couple of hours of anyone's time.

Well, I would have forgotten all about this, if some kind person hadn't put it in the Forum Calendar.

Some interesting stuff there, and quite a bit of it new to the event.

Ivor, his engine.

Enjoying a drop of red.
I was particularly taken by a rather nice Riley Kestrel and amazed (in a nice way) to see a Renault 12. Nice red E Type and a rather cool looking Mini Van.

I was perplexed by a Moggie Minor wearing Austin badges but the owner wasn't about at the time to ask what that was all about.

The black Capri 3ltr was really nice and almost tempts me to seek one out to buy.

Star of the show for me though was the Ferrari F40, hiding away in a corner almost invisible. Then seeing and hearing it blast past as it headed down the Newport Road upon leaving the show. First, and probably last time I shall ever see one on the move :(

Morris Minor commercials were badged as Austin for a time - crinkly grilles, as well.

Never new that. Thought the MM was one of the few cars that Austin/Morris etc etc produced that didn't take part in all the badge engineering.

Only the commercials, I think - not many Austin ones about now. It was an Austin engine, after all...

Well they stole the engine why not the badge as well!

I guess they decided the moggie needed a bit of class and sporting pedigree attached :heyhey:

The morris van was always the choice of the beancounters because of its capacity, The a35 Van was the choice of the driver.

Here's what James Hunt said about his A35 van :-

"I can put everything I ever learnt in motor racing into driving it round the Wandsworth one-way system on a wet Saturday night, blow off all the Ferraris, and nobody takes a blind bit of notice."

Midwife or racing driver, Morris or Austin your choice :xd:
