Swimming Pools in Staffordshire

I'm looking into starting going swimming again. I feel I need a bit more exercise and I've always enjoyed swimming. I used to be a member of Esporta and during my time I only used the pool! Bit shocking really!

Anyway, just wondered what experiences people have had of the public pools around Staffordshire, I've not been to one in years and that one was the one in Cannock which I believe is currently being refurbished. In particular, would like any knowledge of the Penkridge Pool as that looks to be a promising option.

Used to take the kids to lessons, Stone & Riverside (Old & New!), haven't really been regularly for a few years, but as I may start going myself soon, I won't look any further than http://www.staffordbc.gov.uk/staffordleisurecentre the new riverside.
Agree with Glam, Alleynes in Stone int bad. But Stafford leisure 4 me! I assume penkridge is the one at Wolgarston, unfortunately cannot give any info', the one at Walton is small, and I don't know if its open to the public! The Venerable Mrs Seed used to be a member at Esporta, and used to do little else but swim, and as I guested a few times, I must say it was lovely, relaxing, soothing place for a dip, and the sauna was good to!:bum:

There is just something about the look of the New Riverside I don't like the look of. I just don't know why - I've never set foot in it!

On one of my recent trips to the 'baths' i was about to have a leak in the deep-end, when the attendant blew his whistle so loudly i nearly fell in ! ...........

I'd say 'go in'! Not as bad from the outside as Stone IMHO, and certainly not as bad when you get in. Went to Fenton in my efforts to get in the Fire Service, as I worked in Stoke. Lovely pool, and that is 33m, 8m longer! As any man will tell you, inches count, especially 8!:heyhey: Wider as well!

New Riverside is good, changing rooms a bit tight, don't forget to pick up your quid from the locker.

I've been to the new Riverside and found it ok.
When I've been early mornings or lunchtimes there has been a general section taking about 2/3 of the pool and 3 roped off areas for 'slow' 'medium' and 'fast' . I've found it much better in the slow/medium lanes as it's sometimes a bit of a free-for-all in the general section. OK if you're a strong swimmer and can cope with others not bothered about who is in their way. You tend to get a bit more respect in the roped lanes.
Always been very clean in the pool when I've been and there are some family changing rooms which I tend to nip into when there's plenty free.
