Talk to me about..... 360 Photography

wanna see my snake?
Anyone use a 360 camera? I've done the smartphone thing where you take loads of pics and it stitches them together but never tried a point and click (or is that don't point just click?). I'm buying a ricoh theta for an upcoming holiday, figured I'd use my phone camera for main shots as it's a decent one but a 360 to get some nice scenery ones. I just didn't factor in one important thing - I am going to be visible in them all! This is not good, I don't do selfies and can't see the point in ruining a perfectly good vista by including my mug, I'm guessing I'll need a tripod and a timer but hadn't factored that in.

So, has anyone used similar? Any guidance?

So, I've had a play now and am getting a bit used to it. First thing, positioning is odd. Ideally it should be at head height, but to keep myself out of it I've been lifting it above my head. Great for scenery but not OK for anything indoors. Secondly, I have giant malformed thumb syndrome. If holding the camera you always end up with bits of you at the bottom of the photo. I think I need a monopod for this, or maybe one of those god awful selfie sticks?

Another issue is that to trigger the camera remotely with your phone means you are nearly always in shot looking at your phone. The wifi isn't that great on it too, so can't be too far away when taking a shot. Also you have to be aware of light, the two lenses don't work independently to ensure the two photos match meaning a very strong light source in one direction will darken everything in the other to compensate. Here are 2 more I took this weekend:

It's an interesting toy, thats for sure.

Now using a sort of selfie stick with a little tripod attachment, almost works. Crops out the majority of it on it's own, and using the selfie stick to hold the camera away from you at least gets you some good shots where you don't take up half the photo, just a shame you look like a massive bellend when using one....

No change there then mate :)
