Logged into Braclays this morning to get a warning for all talk talk customers, telling them what to look out for.

Email from TalkTalk just now - stating:-

We can now confirm that the following personal data were accessed:
    • Less than 21,000 unique bank account numbers and sort codes.
    • Less than 28,000 obscured credit and debit card details. As previously stated, the middle 6 digits had been removed and therefore are not usable for financial transactions e.g. 012345 xxxxxx 6789.
    • Less than 15,000 dates of birth.
    • Less than 1.2 million email addresses, names and phone numbers.

I'm not too sure what they mean by the word "unique" there.

TalkTalk seem keen to offer me things that I already have, or don't really want - and that would involve me making a 600 mile round trip involving a 60 mile sea crossing each way - I think I'll give it a miss....

    Email from TalkTalk says :-

We wrote to you recently to say thank you for standing by us following the recent cyber attack on our website. We’d like to remind you that your free upgrade is now ready.
Have a free upgrade on us
There’s a lot to choose from, including:
[IMG] A free mobile value SIM
[IMG] Unlimited UK landline or mobile calls
[IMG] A complimentary broadband and Wi-Fi health check
Choosing your free upgrade is easy - simply click the button below to log in to My Account, but please remember, you’ll need to log in from your TalkTalk home internet connection. You have until 31st December to make your selection, then you can enjoy even more value with TalkTalk, and you won’t have to pay a penny for it. Once your free upgrade comes to an end, we’ll remove it from your account with no strings attached.

I can't even take the piss out of them as it's from a dead-end address.

This is probably based on the "SELECT DISTINCT" clause in SQL e.g.

    select distinct(accountnumber, sortcode) from customerdetails;

Meaning: return only one occurence for each customer; distinct and unique
in this case having the same meaning.

Arrests in India - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-35425275 - though, possibly not directly related.

I've had approaches from Indian sources outside TalkTalk which have known more about me than the usual random scammer would and has led me to believe that information does seep out over there..
