I personally don't see anti Tory graffiti as negative. Beauty being in the eye of the beholder etc etc

I was born and bred there ... (when they knocked down the primary gubbins of the SGI, somehow the blue plaque got lost.) It really isn't that bad a town .... (APART FROM THE FACT IT KEEPS VOTING TORY DESPITE FACT ALL IT'S INDUSTRY HAS BEEN PISSED OVER THE SIDE OF THE SHIP.)

Don't mind me, I sat in a class room in Kingston Secondary Modern School and watched the English Electric MRI factory being built, I even worked there for a while. I'm a bit pissed off about the betrayal.

Funny, when I buy Bosch products, Philips products none of them are made in the EU. Buy a VW and it's not made in Germany unless it is one of the high end models like a GTI. There's few countries in the west which haven't lost its manufacturing to China or somewhere else. 1997-2010 we had people like Peter Mandelson letting everything get sold off unopposed (Cadburys, Rover to name a couple), of course he regretted it afterwards when Kraft didn't honour their promises about Cadburys and when BMW asset stripped Rover.

In fact, manufacturing fell faster as a percentage of GDP in the New Labour years than under Thatcher who many said destroyed manufacturing. It only started to go back up when they were out of power. Of course you can argue some of that might have happened due to financial services taking a huge nosedive in the financial crisis.

I have said before, there seem to be two trains of though with regard to the town. Folks who are Stafford born & bred can remember it's heydey/better times so the decline seems more severe to them. To those of us who have moved here in recent memory things don't seem as bad. I still maintain that all towns have declined in recent years but Stafford has actually fared better than most especially in the local area. Businesses/shops are still opening & there are plenty of decent places to eat etc. Try going to Wolverhampton, Walsall, Cannock & Burton et al & see what they have compared to us!.
