I was only discussing heliographs the other day (Tuesday, in fact) - I think I've still got one of these somewhere.

However, having witnessed Trump's press conference on BBC4 100 days last night, I really fear for us all. The man is as mad as a March Hare ... (which I deeply suspect is hard on March Hares.)

He also, apparently, is not sleeping . If you know anything about sleep deprivation and pressure you'd probably be down a coal mine in India by now

I'm hopeful that one of the following will happen:

The election will be declared invalid

He will be impeached

A toddler will add to the statistics on firearms

A trip on a ramp will put him into a brief coma and once awake he will take on the personality of Grayson Perry

More likely he'll get confused one night thinking he's pressing the button to summon his valet and actually nuke us all.

CQD was the old distress call, initially used by the Titanic (CQ means calling all stations, D for distress.) SOS replaced it because of it's distinctive sound (Morse is about rhythm rather than dots and dashes) and this was also used by the Titanic as it had just been introduced. Bad as it was the Titanic at least did one good thing in bringing about a re-think in the ships radio station procedures.
In terms of blinking, SOS would be a lot easier to send. I don't know about Melania Trump other than seeing her standing behind DT on various newscasts where she gives the impression of someone deeply unhappy.

Having said that I don't know Morse, and I really don't, for some reason I have dahditdahditdahdahdit dah echoing round my brain. As far as I know GBXY RRR was an ancient code translating as "all British warships - am being attacked by unknown vessel". Maybe if May speaks nicely to Trump he might lend us some warships to respond.

The Royal Navy may not have many ships now, but it still has five Admirals of the Fleet, six Admirals, six Vice Admirals and twenty five Rear Admirals (2015 figures). They could form a defensive wall..?

dahditdahdit dahdahditdah is CQ, so you had that one. (But don't run your letters together, unlike SOS which is run together to give that nice easily identifiable rhythm.)

As I'm sure you know, organisations be they military, commercial or political inevitably get 'top heavy.' Hence, the CEO's of the top 350 British company's have an average pay of over one million per annum, something like an 80% increase over the past 11 years. Yet the per capital income of those companies has increased by less than 10% over the same period. Not really a good investment unless you happen to be one of the pigs at the trough.

DT might end up with a top heavy administration, (assuming he can find someone who either isn't bent, or simply doesn't want a job in the circus, judging by today's news that might be difficult.)

That's one thing about the circus ... there's always a bunch of clowns to fill in the gaps.

I'm laughing all the way to that sudden bright light shining through the pub window that says: 'best drink your pint quick me old matey...' :buddy:
