Circumstances have seen us eat at The Oak twice recently, both times pretty good.
Couldn't get in anywhere else in Eccy Saturday 10th so gave it a go. Had a really good steak cooked just the way I like it. On Sunday some friends dropped by on spec and we decided to go again. Had proper faggots wrapped in chawl not the 'Mr Brains' type thingys some pubs see fit to dish up.
Beer still excellent too. Nice to see things looking up.

Just moved house, still upside down. Didn't fancy cooking on the Saturday and friends dropped on us at short notice on Sunday. Saturday the Lion at Sutton was full, didn't fancy Daru Chini, London House was full, George closed. Smithy too dear for an 'on spec ' tea in our
scruffs. Sunday our friends didn't fancy curry so the Oak fitted the bill.

But then it was cold and I have had manflu and all the bar staff were blokes...

Took a friend to The Oak last night, had the faggots, chips & mushy peas for the fourth time in a row of eating there. She had the same and thought they were bostin'. Someone she knew on the next table also had them and were well pleased. I'm informed that they are sourced from a butcher in Wolverhampton.
Mrs T's chicken was also OK, glad to see they're getting it right again. Beer was again excellent.

Met some friends from Stone at The Oak for tea last night. Couldn't get a table in the dining room at 19:00, had to eat in the bar. Place was proper busy which is nice to see. On the plus side, the faggots are still proper and I met a Border Terrier called Lilly.

Went with friends for tea last night, flat beer and decidedly average food. My starter of mushrooms in a stilton sauce had a bog standard week cheesy sauce and the fish was overdone. Chicken breasts are getting smaller. Don't expect great things at what is essentially a pub doing food but it's going downhill again.

Taking the kids to The Fox at Newport tonight for the Ginger Tosser's birthday, will report back.

I ventured in here tonight and had what is definitely the worst pint of Guinness that I've had anywhere this side of 1980.

It reminded me of the old days of the awful Park Royal stuff. perhaps they had found an old barrel?

    Oh dear

I ventured into the Rose and Crown in Stafford the other day

    Sour beer

    One malodorous customer

The two staff looked like they were drowning not waving

I was there for the Dan Hartland & John Craigie do last night.

It's a fine venue for the right sort of thing.
