hmm, shame to hear this.. we had a poor experience at the red lion at derrington recently, so had decided to try the menu at the sun next.. i wouldn't say the above has put me off, but i'm perhaps not in as much of a hurry as i was!Trumpet said:In for a quick couple and a bite to eat last night. Service and beer as usual spot on. Disappointed with the food though, originally going to have the fish & chips which looks great but as we weren't hugeley hungry (the portions are substantial) we went instead for the sharing platter with chips on the side. Chips were good, the rest not so. Four frozen onion rings, four small breaded mushrooms, one battered (or breaded, it was hard to tell) chicken fillet sliced into six pieces, a handfull of potato wedges and two spring rolls. The spring rolls were quite nice but the rest was typical Iceland / Farm Foods rubbish and had the look of something previously cooked and reheated, the salad garnish had also seen better days.
If they're doing 'freshly battered' cod I am guessing a large batch of batter would be on hand surely it would not be too hard to do proper onion rings not those frozen onion flavoured 'mush' rings.
Will try here again as the fish & chips does look very appetising but would advise keeping away from the 'Iceland' platter as we re-named it.
Its a pub - always should have stayed a pub - owned by a brewery - not a pair of brother chefs - even the sludge pies from Pauline were questionable in the eighties - catering is a not an industry that attracts many creative people outside of London - perhaps they should be doing a deal with one of the neighbouring cafe style places...Trumpet said:In for a quick couple and a bite to eat last night.
