The Swan, Whiston

Whilst out for a bike ride yesterday we passed The Swan at Whiston. It advertised a 3 course Sunday lunch for £9.95, and I wondered if anyone had any experience of this? It's in good cycling distance for a ride out specifically for lunch.

The menu looks great, and whilst I've not eaten the main meals we've had bowls of chips which were good. Last time I noticed the specials board had belly pork stuffed with black pudding in a cider gravy - sounded lush!

They also have the best cask cider selection that I know of within cycling distance of Stafford, if anyone knows better I'd love to hear about it!

Bus from Stafford stops outside the front door of The Swan too.

Does it? That could be handy when I can't be bothered to cycle! Its not that far a walk to Penkridge train station either, but TBH I don't fancy walking those lanes at night.

Yep, Arriva 88/88A Mon - Sat and alternate 76s on a Sunday (the ones that go via Wheaton Aston). There's no bus stop flag at The Swan but it is a bus stop!!

It looks possible to walk it from the Station, avoiding the most frequented lanes, if it's the traffic that bothers you. Have a look at the OS map - I suspect that it would be best to try it in daylight first though, the last bit is across the fields...

Where's the fun in that!
The fun of not getting snarled up on barbed wire in the dark?..
All adds to the adventure!! :P

If you take a fairly insane Petzl lamp or something similar, then it's made a bit easier!

We went for a meal last night. We were the only people dining, although apparently Sunday evenings are quiet anyway. The food was very nice, I had cajun chicken and it was a huge piece. I think it worked out just under £60 for 4 of us, with 2 rounds of drinks. I'll definitely go back for a Sunday lunch soon.
