This shows how sneaky the camera vans are getting?

I quite like the idea of speed limiters in-built into cars so no one can speed anymore. Though I do agree that many wont like the idea of others having so much control of their car. It would help combat heavy traffic etc and stop anyone from having to worry about speeding ever again.

Perhaps it should be suggested that those who repeatedly speed have limiters put into their cars for a specified period of time. then if they are caught speeding after its gone they immediately get their license taken away.

I like your idea more.

Buggered if I'm going to pay a year's salary for a sporty little number and then have the government limit all of that engineering and development to 70mph (max).

I’m awful for not monitoring my speed – I don’t deliberately go over the speed limit but often and unintentionally find myself doing 5 to 10 over what I should be. Usually this is just following the traffic in front at whatever speed they’re doing. It’s no excuse and if I got caught it’d probably make me a more careful driver. I would however like to hear from the judgemental types as to whether or not they have ever in their driving history exceeded any speed limit.
The cameras are there for safety as much as for anything else. I’d hope that whatever money is raised from fines issued is put to good use. They are clearly visible for a reason as well. They make you slow down as soon as you spot one regardless of the side of the road you’re travelling on or if there is even a camera inside the box. As for three points on your licence – if you are caught speeding four times in any three year period then maybe you’re not safe to be on the roads in the first place.
I’ve got all kinds of bells and whistles on my car and I’m going to have a good look at the manual later for the cruise control and speed limiting thingy!

I've said this before too, they actually improve traffic flow through the sections of motorway with roadworks.
Yep, which is why variable speed limits ("active traffic management") are appearing on the M6. Traffic flow is better at 50mph than 70mph+.
It works on the M42 aqnd M25. 50 is better than 70 when you can only 20.

The main problem is lane hoppers

Yep, lane hopping certainly doesn't help.

Cheese brains who sit in the middle lane overtaking nothing are also immensely irritating.

The problem I have found with the Active Management is that the design of the M6 scheme has obviously been done with cost further in mind.

The distance between gantries is larger on the M6 and it is more obvious IMO that not all gantries have speed cameras installed. This has led to an foot down/brake situation occuring more frequently than on the M42 trial.

I'm all for it average speed cameras where there is a demand for them. I've been involved in these projects in the past.

Just going back on a previous point already cleared up, I think it is a common misconception that the Safety Camera Partnership vans are manned by active Police Officers and perhaps maybe they should have more information out there on the Safety Camera Partnership. I say "active", as I'm led to believe there are a number of Ex/Retired Police officers in the organisation.

If motorists genuinely dont wish to law break they should be demanding speed control technology from vehicle manufacturers

That or legislation to have it inbuilt by law

Bit of a walk if they don't drive, mind you those four tins of beans should have enough explosive power to take out a scamera.
