To bomb Syria?

Let's imagine that you, yes YOU, are the MP for Stafford.

Without a clearly defined question, let us presuppose it will be something along the lines of 'this house believes' the UK should 'extend' its mission to include targets* in Syria or some such. * would almost certainly be worded 'ISIS targets'

Put simply, should the UK be given clearance (Clarence) to 'target' targets in Syria?

You have a free vote.

Yes or no?

P.S. Remember, you are an MP - you don't need to 'justify' your response

The problem is that it isn't just about bombing Syria or not - the Syrian war is rather complicated. There is not just two sides - there is the old Syrian government (Assad), the "opposition", who are not one single movement, the Kurds and the Isis/Isil/Daesh forces. The Turks are not keen on the Kurds establishing a territory, the Russians seem to support Assad, the Saudis support Deash (despite 'us' ignoring this), Iran is a serious player that 'we' seem determined to pretend isn't there at all.

The UK has eight aircraft available for bombing missions.

All of this may be true, but as MP for Stafford you are called upon to answer yay or nay.

Which is it?

P.P.S. In the interests of fairness you are allowed to abstain - but bear in mind that abstention may lead to a result for which you secretly had not wished for.

We might like to consider action over many other difficulties that we have - the Swiss have just sentenced a chap to five years imprisonment for revealing information about people illegally evading British taxation by means of Swiss bank accounts.

Firstly I'd like to praise Gramaisc who is skirting around the issue like a true politician.

Secondly to answer your question - No, I don't think we should bomb Syria.

Difficult call, there does not appear to be an 'after the bombing' plan, which is essential for a total solution. But, there is also the need for a 'send a message to those who would take the piss' plan, so on balance I would vote yes. Albeit with a heavy heart.

Barking News....

We've only got ten missiles left

Would the Islamic State mind waiting until we get a text from the Yodel driver?

The US carried out 16 bomb drops in the last week. Their biggest hit was a dumper truck

It'll all be over by Christmas boys...

I've got to say Yes given what happened in France and whats now happening In Herman land and other country's across Europe
They maybe minor fights and riots at the moment but even if every body pulled out of the region it won't make any difference once the "whatever you want to call them" realise there demands will not be met in the country there now in. Of course you won't have seen any of whats really going on over there in the press over here.

Is Syria at fault? What has Syria done? Or are we talking about bombing certain groups of people that happen to be in Syria? What if they move house without telling us?

If I was pretending to be a politician I'd vote no, however if was really a politician then chances are theres a few quid to be made and I'm a slimy bastard in which case I'd vote yes.

I say no, there would be yet another campaign without an exit strategy against an enemy we can't see. Instead cut off their finances, end their oil trade, seize their money.
