too fat for treatment?

I think its a bit of an excuse by the doctor really as my other half is on the large size and she has no problem getting pregnant.

What I would say is this though - if you can lose the weight and get down to a more normal size (14/16 should do it) then you have not only proved how motivated you are, but you are also in better shape to have children. Dont forget its common for people who have fertility treatment to have multiple births which puts a massive strain on your body. You really are more prone to getting ill whilst pregnant if you are over weight. How is your blood pressure? It needs to be text book.

I myself am overweight. My diet is OK, but I have the fat gene. LOL The only way I properly lose weight is getting lots of exercise. The hour or so of walking I do a day is just not enough. It would take 90mins at the gym 3-4 times a week for me not to be overweight. So if what you eat is OK then try getting more exercise.

My other half has used slimming world before and it works well and most importantly its healthy. Weight Watchers on the other hand is all about the points and less about being healthy so I'd avoid them.

One last thing - there are so many children out there that need adopting or fostering. In years gone by they would have been adopted, but now that everyone can ask for free IVF people dont want to adopt. Personally I have always thought that it seems a bit crazy to be letting people die from cancer, because the NHS cant afford the latest drugs, but we hand out IVF.

I totally agree with the cancer drug comment me n hubby had same convo last week we looked into adopting as my aunt fosters n I think both are well worth while, thing is what we found is it can take years to even get through the first steps. We have our names on the list n r both crb checked etc we can't have anyone below the age of 5 because I quit smoking less than 5 years ago n I have family who smoke (that would be in contact with child on a daily basis). I even asked the Dr about surrogucy because my untie was willing to carry for me but she just laughed at me n said its not even legal in UK. On further revision iv found that it is infact legal.

A little secret. Drs say/do things like this because they believe you will allow them to. Read the Black Report/Unequalities in health some time, and you will learn a lot about how to get what you need from your GP.

Little things like learn to adopt what they see as a 'middle class accent', go in there telling THEM what is wrong and what needs doing, rather than going in as the little girl/boy seeking favours from the holy pubar GP DrBadManners etc.

Policy, maybe but I doubt it. However it is not policy to be rude even when rejecting treatment because of a policy.

As to those posting various garbage about what you have a right to etc, that's just opinions, and only vaguely even on topic really. Heck, they don't actually even have a RIGHT to post these opinions, when you consider RIGHT to mean a legal right granted in statute. ;) So pay no heed, unless you really give a hoot. lol

I tend to take the atitude that policy isn't law. If a policy is discriminatory, which policies regarding weight, ethnicity, culture etc are, then it needs changing. You get policies changed by standing up and been heard. Duck your head, tug your forlok, get walked on by life's bigots, idiots and jobsworths. You can't even categorically state that weight WILL cause your child problems etc. So can lots of other things to a far greater degree that each and every one of us probably does or is exposed to every single day.

However, pretty sure they will argue that you should be on a low GI diet if you have pcos. Losing weight with pcos is an uphill battle though, and they need to recognise, and support you through this. NOT tell you to bog off and lose some weight.

Sadly, the same attitude usually gets me labled as opinionated, so I do appologise in advance. lol

Indeed, I've attended a surgery and been treated like dirt because of how I was dressed, hair etc. On an alternative occasion, where I dressed smart, made sure the hair was neat, looked 'em in the eye etc, the same Dr treated me with much more respect. it's disgraceful. Not just a Dr problem though, had a similar experience in the library before, wrote an awesome ranty email to them and got a massive apology and re-training for a certain staff member :P

It does seem like they are way to strict on adopting criteria these days. I understand certain things, but sometimes it seems like they expect perfection and nobody is perfect.

Thank you to everyone who commented it means a lot I'm going the doctors on Mon and I'm telling them I WANT to be referred to a fertility clinic. I'll keep u updated.

I don't want to sound like an advert but if you want to lose weight have you tried Rosemary Conley diet - I have lost half a stone on it in 3 weeks! and prior to that I lost 3 stone on it.

It is so good, highly recommend it :)
