Anyone know what was going on with traffic on Baswich Lane tonight up to the Cannock Rd roundabout? I came up there at 6.20 pm and there was still tailbacks. Are there temporary traffic lights or roadworks on the roundabout?

The A34 from the Weeping Cross islands going towards Cannock was clogged and this was stopping traffic being able to feed from Baswich Lane.

I don't know what was clogging the A34 because I only went as far as Wildwood. I thought it might be a fallen tree. When I got back I looked on the BBC website to see what had caused it, and it was not mentioned. Maybe that is normal traffic nowadays and does not count as a traffic jam.

Never known it that bad, around Weeping cross to wildwood, took longer on bus to get to weeping cross to wildwood, than it did from town, even at Xmas usually sail down cannock road, where as lichfield road was bad

We went up the Cannock Road on our walk from Wildwood tonight and the traffic was crawling and tailed right back.

Turns out what was causing it was a couple of cars heading out of town had stopped close to the turning off to Acton Trussell. The car behind had his hazards on, the car directly in front had his left hand indicator on and parked slightly out , so traffic was having to wait for a gap to overtake. Both blokes were outside the cars at first but got into the 2nd car as we approached.Couldn't see any sign of a collision so maybe one was broken down? Just after we had passed them there was another bloke , who had parked up in Oldcroft Road ,running towards them........ Must have been there quite some time for it to build up so much.

We were just glad to not find a nasty accident. ((But curious what was going on)

This was before 5pm when we first saw the traffic queuing at Wildwood, so looks like they were there for some time after we walked past as well.

Eccleshall Rd also regularly seized up now. The town will soon be inaccessible by car, and then who will go to the new Morrisons, 47 screen cinema or Primark slave labour shop?

99% of the time there isn't a problem with traffic in stafford I end up crossing the town 4-6 times some days rush hours and mid day Saturday things do slow up but it's never more than a few minutes
Eccleshall road may have been busier than normal last few days because of roadworks and temperary traffic lights on stone road

I live in Stafford and work in Birmingham and Manchester. The traffic is Stafford is nothing compared to the traffic congestion that other towns and cities experience. I agree there are a particular hotspots in Stafford during rush hour periods, however you are never delayed more than a few minutes (may be 10 minutes at the very most). I suppose its all about perceptions and other peoples' experiences.

Unless the M6 is shut of course.

What we need is a bypass...
