Traffic

I ♥ cryptic crosswords
I walked past all that on the Stone Rd this morning and thought 'I'll comment on Stafford Forum about it if its the same when I walk back' thinking that traffic chaos would ensue...but there was no traffic chaos! The nice transporter blokes even smiled and said hello as I ambled past - well done Bristol Street delivery people (and the wooden roof strut driver).

Randals should take note!!!

Were you wearing those turquoise hotpants again?

Is it just me or are the good people of Stafford just a little bit too car dependant? I moved here 10 years ago and sold my car after living here for just 6 months. Living in the town centre, everywhere is within walking distance and there's absolutely no need to drive.

However, some of my neighbours use their cars for trips to the supermarket (all 5-10 mins walk away) and the usual uneccessary school runs. At this rate, through evolution, the next generation of kids won't be born with legs as they don't seem capable of using them.

Being a pedestrian in Stafford town centre also has its irritations. For example, all the pedestrian crossings seem to be of the "pelican" type which give priority to cars. Also, who invented the really poorly designed pedestrian access to the Tesco Extra? It does nothing but encourage yet more pointless car use.

Apologies if I come across a little "ranty" but I've woken up this morning feeling the need to get stuff off my chest.

"And deep breath....."

Don't worry it really winds me up too, and the Tesco's express crossing must be the most pedestrian unfriendly crossing I've ever come across, made even worse by its propensity to flood at the crossing points across the Newport Road at the slightest drop of rain. I find it really hard to fathom out with so many supermarkets in our residential town centre why they are designed it manner that makes it difficult for people to get to on foot; it just doesn't make any sense and shows a considerable lack of skill and thought at the planning process. Grrrrrr

basil

And just up the road the junction with station road has no pedestrian priority whatsoever!!!!.......

Car hit some railings, apparently. No injuries reported on the BBC travel bulletin.

Stone Rd is jam packed going Northbound at the moment...

I know M6 Southbound is closed near J15 so not sure what's causing this chaos?
