i can't help but notice that at least 3 pairs of tickets for this year's V festival have gone up in the Stafford For Sale section over the last few days/weeks..

is it just co-incidence, or has something happened to make everyone pull out? is morrisey appearing or something? :teef:

Been to V a few times over the years, V96 in Warrington, a few at Weston Park, and one or two acts aside it is really a very very poor festival. Admittedly its relaxed, due to its poorness you never feel you need to get to a stage to see a band, "ooh Conor Maynard is about to start", so its pretty relaxed. Its more of a sit and have drinks with friends festival. Then of course most of Telford descends on it and thats not good for anybody.

I went to V99 and narrowly avoided getting set on fire. I went again a couple of years ago, because Elbow were playing. Everyone around me appeared to be drunk out of their minds. People started bouncing on me. Then two very sweet people linked arms behind me, to create a human shield. I don't know who made me feel oldest, the bouncers or the protectors. I felt old, out of place and filled with dread about what had just been thrown into my hair. I won't go back. It's full of kids behaving as if it is their first time away from their parents.
The Cambridge Folk Festival, on the other hand, is a total joy. They even play the Archers omnibus edition across the PA system on Sunday morning. There are teams of people collecting litter and administering sun cream, the toilets play music when you go in and you can stay in a special quiet field where you can get a decent night's sleep. You can lie in the sun, reading the paper and listening to music all afternoon then have some hot mulled cider and dance until your legs give way. When Guilfest was known as Guilford Folk & Blues, that was brilliant too. It's got a lido, which makes for a very superior festival experience.

I went to Cambridge folk Festival in 1996 or thereabouts, ostensibly to see Billy Bragg but mainly because I like a little folk. It was a lovely place, beautiful surroundings, really nice people running it. I just came back from Rebellion Festival in Blackpool and although the music is completely different, its in a beautiful building, ran by fantastic people. I go to a few festivals a year but try to avoid V, I gave up on reading and Leeds a couple of years ago because of the high dickhead quota.

V was my first proper festival, in 2001 IIRC (chillies/Placebo/Foo Fighters on the same night). Never been back though, and still rates as the worst festival toilets I've ever seen. I then did a few Leeds festivals, a few one dayers at Donnington, then later Download. Not been to a festival since 2007, and can't see myself returning to a mainstream one again. Would quite like a return to ynot, although its a bit bigger/more expensive than it used to be.

That was also the last V I went to as well tek monkey. Poor toilets, very poor. The best festivals I have been to over the years, Shambala, rebellion, workhouse festival, the smaller the better. A friend has been to ynot this year but I havent spoken to him yet as to what its like.

i've been to V twice - 2000 and 2001 i think.. was pretty good both times, but very civilised compared to the usual ones i went to (reading 95, phoenix 96 & 97, glasto 98 & 99)..

i'm too old and falling apart for all that shenanigans now though.. i break into a nervous sweat if i go outside a 10 mile radius of my house lol..

You should move to castletown, they have a support group for that kind of thing there (the railway)

I went to V2003 and enjoyed it immensely, but then again, I was one of those drunk kids at their first festival. I haven't been since due to the diabolical music on offer more than anything else. One thing I did see at V and haven't really noticed at a festival since was the large amount of 'day trippers' who turned up looking pristine while the rest of us smelled of tent and toilet.

I've never had the pleasure of Reading or Leeds, but did do Download 2009. Purely for Faith No More. I was surprised by the variety of food (V was pure burgers) but the loos were a horror and the festival came close to ending in a riot.

In 2008 I want to a weekend in Minehead Butlins, which was brilliant, and I've also just come back from another Rebellion.
I've come to the conclusion that indoor festivals and accommodation with showers is the future.

Was that an all tomorrows party's thing? Heard they are good.

Yes, it was really good. The two main bands played twice to make sure everyone got to see them (better than Rebellion in that respect, where it's tough luck if the room is full). It was my first experience of having a private loo to be sick in at a festival. Brilliant.
