Water Butt Wanted

I am seeking a water butt. Preferably around 100 litres capacity for £5 or less. I will collect it if in Stafford.

I'm not exactly sure what I will do with it yet, so no rush. I will probably just water plants or wash the patio with it if nobody has any better ideas.

If you leave the top off it you could plant it with water plant, and put gold fish in it, but if you put fish in it, take them out over winter, they will freeze in a water butt.

I think it's useful to use the rainwater in a more productive way, rather than just letting it run down the drain. You can use water from a water butt with a pressure washer (obviously with a filter) for all sorts of purposes, like washing paths, cars, bikes, driveways etc. Also, an irrigation system can be set up (also with a good filter system) for the summer months.

I just haven't decided which useful purpose I will use my water butt for yet - although it will be one of the above when I get round to it.

We have one which I am yet to use, but it will be for a similar thing. If we get the water off the roof of the greenhouse I can use it to water all the plants. We have a tap down there, but rainwater would be better.

My neighbours overflow pipe is constantly dripping with crystal clear water... have told him about it twice and he just says "can't find where its coming from" so I just started collecting it in my watering can and tip it into my water butt....

Usually get at least 7 litres a day off it, probably more like 15 litres.....

Such a waste considering he's on a meter and paying for it so the least I can do is reuse it...

Wow! I guess he will also be one of these people scratching his wondering why he's using water likes its going out of fashion and blaming ye olde credit crunch? Fair play for recycling it though, definitely a good idea!

Its going to be a toilet cistern if its coming out anywhere other from near the eaves of the roof.

Wilkinson's are currently offering two different butts. They have a nice, substantial, round butt for £14:99 and a more compact, slim-line butt for £12:99, for the more stylishly minded. These butts appear to come supplied with taps to control the eflux of your stored butt-water, as required.

I made one from a plastic dustbin from instore (£7) and just fitted a tap to it. Worked out cheaper than any I saw in the shops.
