Has anybody tried putting their cars through out of interest?

It's made me a frankly insulting offer for my Mini, not that I wanted to sell, was just being nosey.

I think they offered my ex something stupid like £25 for his escort cabriolet IIRC. If it was a shed I could understand but it was one in fair nick.

Beware.

I submitted my car "for fun" whilst looking for a new car. I knew they wouldn't be high enough but did it out of curiousity.

I went to a garage and they had the facility to check if I had done a search on WBAC and how much they offered. They then offered just a little bit higher than them to make it seem better.

I will never use them again, just in case. Their prices will never be high enough for me.

Maybe they just typed your reg into the website, or do you need more details than that to get a quote?

I was under the impression they give you a resonable quote, but come handover time, they slash the price quickly on any dinks, dents or scratches.

"...from fifty quid to a hundred grand..."

small print: admin fee of £49.95 minimum will apply.

So, I was effectively offered 5p for my Golf.

I'm surprised that people are surprised about this...

Hardly a con, just people running a business. If you want to get private money for it, sell it privately (with all the hassle that goes with that), if you want shut of it quickly then use these guys.

End of the day its free choice if you use them or not - they are just a business that have to make a profit and if they pay you more for your car than what they can sell it for then they won't.

I've heard that they make a fair initial offer and then rapidly 'devalue' the vehicle once you've taken the vehicle to their premises.

Which is fair enough, what ISN'T is them offering £25 for something worth almost a grand! I mean, you DO expect to be ripped off a bit when you go to a place like that and most people would deem it worth it to get rid of the car, but not ripped off to the point of £975! It's ridiculous, offers not even anywhere near being reasonable even taking into account their profit etc.

Ooo i'll shut up now :P

Can't comment on every situation because its impossible, but I know a lot of people who think that their cars are worth a lot more than what they are.

You've got to remember what they do with these cars... the newer ones they probably flog off to dealers to sell on forecourts.

Older cars, they don't want the hassle with so thats why they make stupid offers. They probably just scrap / auction most of them to get rid of them quick.

Just priced up my 3 years old, VGC (old shape) Fiesta....

WBAC = £3850

Parkers

Original Price £10,495 (VERY, VERY WRONG!!!)
Franchised Dealer £5,345
Independent Dealer £5,060
Private Good £4,440
Private Poor £3,680
Part Exchange £4,055

Should add - the Parkers prices are based on 30,000 miles, whereas the WBAC figures are based on the true 43,000 miles.

I have heard that even when they do give you a good quote, when you get there they chip away back down. Then they charge you an admin fee of 50 quid!! Ridiculous

Outfits like these make money from the desperate who need to sell their cars, and the lazy who can't be bothered with the hassle of a private sale.

Arrgh, I need to get some adblock software.

The webuyanycar advert is obviously reading from a cookie as it's now showing me a pic of my car and their offer.

Persistant, if nothing else.

Sadly I fear the former, if we presume that the lazy are, on the whole, replacing their car but being lazy about it, and if you can afford to be lazy enough to take a sub market price, then surely you would be even lazier than just selling the car and buying a new one by just taking it to a dealer and getting the part ex. value of it against a new car, thus performing one transaction and being awesomely lazy about it.
